thoughts on parking for the future

I know there was another complaint thread on this, but I was wondering if fans out there have
given some thought as to what can be done to better the situation, especially when we are near
capacity

You could see the problem coming before today....with the closure of the red lot on the other side of the RAC ( which was my lot) everyone is forced into the green/Yellow/pay cash area, and as we have seen, it was a mess

I thought closing the access off of the one on Sutton, upon coming in, was a mistake..... they had that access open on the way out, but I was forced to the other Sutton road entry, and the cars waiting to get out were at a standstill for a long time

I think they should have all the entries open for coming in and leaving....the police at the entries would just have to coordinate by stopping one line of entry for, maybe two minutes, then let that one go for 2 minutes......similar to what police do on roads when a one lane each way has to close a lane, and they coordinate by alternating stoppage....

there has to be a better way,somehow.

Shuttle buses from the Scarlet lot outside the Stadium. Even now if I’m meeting someone at the game, we first meet in the Scarlet lot, jump in the others car and drive over to the RAC. No sense in double paying for parking. Have a minimal charge ($2-3 round trip) for the shuttle and that’s it.

I like this idea, but it seems to work best for those locally..... there are times that I cannot leave my house before 6 pm, and I have a 45 minute drive..... I would figure that parking at the stadium, taking a shuttle, would get me there well after the game is underway...

I am not really familiar with the roads around the RAC, being from up North....

if cars leaving the RAC
on the Rockefeller road were forced to make a right turn, would there be ways of getting to 287?...

.I know it starts you in the wrong direction, but is that doable?.....the thought is, to force those going out Rockefeller to the right, those on Hospital road forced to make a left out.... after a while, fans would know this, and would go out the way that works for them to get home.... or, is there a disproportionate number having to go out towards 287?

So there's a designated Lyft pick up point which me and my group were standing by when we called a Lyft after the game ended. Some guy in a yellow jacket didn't let the Lyft driver in to the spot. So we had to call him and meet him in front of the diner. It wasn't too bad but wtf. Why is there a designated spot if you aren't going to let the driver get to it?

edit:...I was at the traffic light of sutton and metlars at 11:25, and almost missed the opening tip, and could not park in the green lot

This is what happens when games are sold out. We are still learning as a university and fanbase what it means to play big-time sports. If our bball team gets good on a regular basis, this will be the norm until alternate parking is figured out. Growth phases are rough while things are figured out. Many schools have a shitshow at the end of games, so everyone plans extra time into their schedules to get to and from the games. Inconvenient, yes, but it is the price of winning.

I am hoping that after the practice facility is finished, there is some parking left in that section to be sold.

I don't think closing off hospital road was the answer but even if those in charge felt it necessary, the question remains: why was there no warning?
I planned my morning to leave so that I got to the RAC at 11:30. I made it to Metlars and Sutton at 11:25. Like Wheezer I barely made tip-off. Had I known about the detour I would have left earlier.
Bad job by Rutgers.

It is true that they will have to figure out how to get people into the lots more quickly, especially if they don't add parking lots to the immediate area and that don't require using the one road in/out. A couple of consultations with an urban planner (or whoever does this type of work) should do the trick.

Just open Hospital Road. Plain and simple. Like Wheezer, I reached the intersection of Metlars and Sutton’s at 11:25 and just barely got in my seats by tip-off (and only then because I jogged in from the parking lot).

This was terrible planning by the university. Terrible.
