Bulldogs win big this week. Elkin will see two very good RB's this week and the bus will smash them.

That 2003 Elkin team I think could have hung well with them and maybe won if things went perfect. They played everyone well and dominated a lot of their schedule that year. No one in the NW really hung with them besides Starmount that year, that was a 17 point win. Swain took them to the edge but Elkin was just better. They beat Salisbury in Pinyan's first year he had them on the way to being decent, and they beat a 2nd round Forbush team easily with a very athletic backfield. Thomasville was beastly but I think it woulda been a fun matchup.

Cal preps simulator has Elkin winning 34-21 over Tville surprisingly. Hmm.

That 2003 Elkin team blew Starmount out 37-7 in one of the largest crowds I’ve ever seen at Starmount. It was on Halloween and Justin “Jason” Billups shredded the Rams by running over 300 yards that Friday night. It was the most rushing yards ever ran on that field.

The thread for that game held the record for years until the one last year broke it during the playoffs.

There were some good old trash talk back then with CoachRobbie and the Starmount fans that year.

03 probably gets Swain by at least 2TDs if half the team didn't have the flu that night. Wasn't Billups hurt too that game?

If Hayesville could have avoided one of, IMO, one of the biggest playoff upsets in memory that season (vs Rosman…Hayesville won the regular season game vs Rosman 50-7 and was the SMC champion that season), I’m not sure Elkin even makes it to the title game. Hayesville was THAT good in 2003. Just had one off night and it cost them dearly.

Best Hayesville team ever in my opinion, some might say '97 though I suppose. Either way '03-'04 seniors was a once in a lifetime class for Hayesville, same class that won the state title in basketball.

'03 was Hayesville's shot at winning the whole thing, they played Elkin in '02 in the 4th round of the playoffs and lost by 6. Hayesville definitely would've given Elkin all they wanted in '03 at bare minimum.

Good luck to Elkin fans coming into Cushwa tonight - my advice don’t stop and eat- enjoy the famous Cushwa Dog. Arguably the best hands down hot dog from any high school venue in the state, and the loaded nachos will rival any sit down restaurant- GO Bulldogs !!!

And saying ‘lost by 6’ kind of underscores how well Hayesville matched up with Elkin that year. The 6 that made the difference was a 70 yard TD pass on the final play after Hayesville fumbled in the red zone with 30 seconds left. Still the craziest ending I’ve seen in person. 02 had some huge senior linemen, but a lot of the skill players were back the next year in 03. Would have liked to have seen them rematch Elkin.

I'd forgotten about the specifics of that game, thanks for the refresh. Hayesville really was snake bit during that stretch, a little better luck and more self discipline in the lead up to the Rosman playoff game in '03 (cousins at Hayesville during that time frame and heard the stories about the "approach" that week) and it's not out of the realm of possibility the Jackets go back to back in '02-'03.
