This is why we don't get 5 stars

With the discussion on this board and other boards about 5 stars and winning championships, thought I'd point out a header on the front page of Six Pack.

Don't know if you have had the chance to read this article, but basically a non-profit has been paying players and there's not telling how deep this thing goes. I've been privy to some info on another such non-profit here in Alabama and has to do with Little Nicky. It's literally going to take the FBI to basically get some headway into the corruption that is occurring in college sports, because we all know the NCAA is not going to do a damn thing!!! I would love to know if this guy helped the FBI with lesser sentence in return for more info. He was looking at 20 years, but gets 33 months. Wonder if the LSU folks got to him either monetarily or with threats to let him ride the pine for 3 years in return for keeping his mouth shut. Or is it shut??

Also, how come they've(LSU) not announced their punishment to the NCAA like we did with tutor gate??? I mean, here you have a solid federal crime with LSU players named and low and behold, LSU is fightin' for a natty!!!
Hail freakin' State!!

I know it's said over and over and over again... but if LSU football and mens basketball program doesn't both get post seasons bans at some point in the future for this ****, I will be rather irate.

Hmm

That amount looks awfully familiar...

Prosecutors alleged Funes approved payments of approximately $180,000 to an individual identified as "Individual C" in the bill of information.

The pretense of SEC and many other P5 football players being "amateur athletes" is such a load of BS. The fact that they get paid under the table is literally the worst kept secret imaginable and it has been as long as I have followed football. The NCAA is so full of crap and they wouldn't dare put the time and effort to enforce anything because they literally make billions of dollars.

Also, we do get 5 star players. We get at least one every couple of years. There are a lot of decent programs out there who have never sniffed a 5 star...

Agree ColoradoDawg. We get one in a blue moon (Simmons is the last that comes to mind).

It's gotten extremely worse since Saban arrived. He knows how the system works and works it well. NCAA is too scared to go after him because he's a cash cow and all of his minions-Smart, Fisher, hell even Pruitt-know how the game is played and are incorporating what Saban taught them it into their school's "culture". Keep your eye on LSU if they beat Bama. Ten bucks LSU has new issues arise should that go down.

It's basically a "buyers" market for players. Get a 5 star rating and see who comes in with the most to give. Signing day bonuses; getting on campus bonuses; and getting on the field bonuses. And LSU is quickly rising to the cream of the crop. In basketball, we know what their coach has done, but they go out and sign the best basketball player here in Alabama and 18th nationally (Wadford) and trust me, he didn't go cheap. We gave up months back when it was apparent he was being "shopped" and most likely, out of our price range!!

Again, the FBI is the only thing out there keeping a smidgling of order, unless you're MSU or Mizzou.

The school you have to worry about is Texas A&M. They have unlimited resources and professional level facilities, a coach known to take risky players and an AD that has a proven propensity to look the other way on recruiting violations and even when caught red handed in multiple programs, fights the NCAA to the bitter end.

And the truth of the matter is if we go all in for the 5 stars like everyone else he’ll will come. Mississippi tried it and the big boys complained, turned them in and the NCAA used our players to punish them. We are in the conference to play against the money teams but if we ever start to make a serious run it will be nipped quickly and with enough penalties to put us in our place. We draw a huge check to be involved in this conference but football is something we or a few others will never have a chance to play at a high level over several years

Hell not he’ll though I guess Sammy could be considered he

Now that's true frontier jibberish, but I agree with your point. The SEC is a good ole boy network and we're an assistant field hand. Bama will always get whatever they want until bigger powers attempt to bring them down and I don't see that happening like it did in the late 90's. They are the cash cow for the conference.

So what is MSU to do?? Player development. Not seeing it with Joe, and it would sting for a few years, but get some of the best people on staff that can evaluate talent and develop them. Try to get out and find those Dak's or Jonathan Banks and find kids that want a chance that are between 3-4 stars. Look at the players we have in the pro's-Wright, Cox, Prescott, Smith, Sweat, Slay, Jones, Autry, and I'll add Jenkins. Of this, only two are on offense, and Dak got his big break with Romo's big break. Had that not happened, he may not have ever seen the field except in pre-season. So basically we're a defensive school that can build on that fact. Now get folks in that know offense and can spot talent that is in state (we have them) or close to our state and utilize the assets locally that these kids are running on the high school level and transition it into college. We're trying something that's not really used in high school systems down here. Work smarter-not harder.

Don't worry, I'm sure the Cam Newton standard will be applied: The player didn't know about the payments so it's not a violation.
