False. Nobody would tell an anorexic person that they are correct inn their belief. Adults need to stop making excuses and tell kids when they are wrong.

many parents would, and have, told their kids they were not gay. this is way different than anorexia. homosexuality was called a mental illness in the 60s.

Plastic surgery had its roots in wartime when soldiers were disfigured or lost limbs during battle. The medical community then started to adapt the techniques and technologies for patients that had the same type of disfigurements from cancer, significant birth defects or trauma injuries.

Years later, seeing an opportunity to capitalize (in parallel with TV coming into homes and emphasizing beauty the cosmetic procedures like “nose jobs” and face lifts became popular.

Fast forward and now we have surgeries and treatments to “enhance” or disfigure in the eye of the beholder. There is absolutely no reason to inject botulism toxin (Botox), no reason for fillers, no reason for a BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift) or yes even breast enhancements. Why? Low self esteem? Mental illness? We are in an era of self inflicted surgerical disfigurement for absolutely no medical reason. And too many in the medical community and media that are complicit promoting the most extreme procedures.

I would suggest that the vast majority of gender affirming procedures fall into this category. Totally unnecessary and unacceptable.

Regarding athletic competition it’s pretty easy to differentiate, so let’s not use rare genetic and physical mutations to redefine them.

again, the comparisons - like botox - are things i understand. maybe they just want bigger _____. i know girls who thought that - but didnt act on it. i never heard anyone say they wish they could be the other sex. total mystery to me.

There is zero actual scientific or biological evidence or reasoning to separate the terms "gender" and "sex." They are synonyms and always have been until very recently when a certain aspect of the political spectrum decided to commandeer this genre and redefine terms that have always been agreed upon. This is actually an extremely simple issue despite the claims of some. I actually can't think of a subject more straightforward, extremely rare genetic defects notwithstanding.

The topic is about body image not sexual orientation. Your analogy doesn't apply
The topic is about trans people competing in sporting events, not either of those things. I’ll ask again please stop with the nonsense topics that have nothing to do with the original post. I’ll never understand why these garbage threads are more popular than topics about basketball on a sports message board. Please stay on topic and stop the sniping back and forth.

If you are seriously asking that question, then you’ve learned nothing about the history of this particular message board community. Maybe reflect a bit as to why most posters never returned or barely post anymore.

That's actually not what the original post was about at all. It was simply a picture of the swimmer with only the title about being a woman (or "women" for some reason). Anyone could have predicted the way this thread would go after seeing the original post. Pretty naive to believe it wouldn't go exactly where it went.
