We have had good years but our MO has kind of been to come out of the middle of the pack in the SEC and turn it on in the post season. Our last three trips to Omaha in 07, 13, and 18 we were 15-15, 16-14 and 15-15 in the SEC and had to play a road regional each year. Last year we had to play two. I know one school of thought is that its not about the journey but the final destination, and I will be very disappointed if we crap the bed before omaha, but it has been such great time experience to watch this team play day in and day out.

The only slight disappointment is that even with one of the best regular seasons we have ever had we only stand to finish no better than 3rd in the conference and 2nd in the division! We are probably two wins from being atop the SEC and more than likely #1 in the nation. If we had won one game at Arky and another from LSU I think that is where we would be right now.

As great as those years were, that is not the percentage way to make it to Omaha. We have GOT to get to a point where we are consistently hosting regionals and super regionals. We're definitely there for this year and I think we're going to be hosting a lot more often in the foreseeable future than we have in a long time.

Heck, you can leave the Arkansas and LSU series the same but remove the blown 5-0 lead to Auburn and the fluky loss at Tennessee and we’re tied for first in the league and possibly the favorite to be the overall number one national seed.

It’s been an awesome season though. I just hope this team can do the deed at home and get to Omaha as well. It’s been a really long time since we’ve had a great regular season AND postseason in the same year, arguably not since ‘85 but certainly not since at least ‘97. We either are ok during the year and get hot at the end or we’re great during the year but fall short before Omaha.

I agree completely. That is one reason why we tend to make it to Omaha every five years or so. Teams that perform consistently enough in the regular season to secure home regionals consistently are the ones that make the CWS consistently although our one and only year of getting a top 8 NS we crapped the bed in the supers at DNF.

I love Lemonis' style of offense

Aggressive batting and base running. That is something that in the past has been missing with our teams. This team rarely watching a strike 3 without swinging. And when they get on base they go all out. A good example was Westburg's double that he tried to turn into a triple. If the throw had not been perfect he would have made it.

If by "in the past" you mean Polk, I would agree. Cohen's teams were VERY aggressive at the plate and on the base paths, moreso than this team. If anything, I think Lemonis reels that in a little more than Cohen, however we have a super aggressive leader in Jake Mangum who sets an aggressive tone for the whole team.

Cohen was very good at manufacturing runs by attacking the defense, pretty much through every avenue possible.

We have played a difficult SEC schedule, which is why we are not SEC champions. Probably the hardest in the league. Which shows you that the SEC title is not the end-all-be-all. Good feather in your cap for sure, as is the SECT, always good to hang a banner.

2013 was similar, although Vanderbilt was markedly better than us that year (them choking at home in the Supers is one big reason we made it to the Finals). I cannot say the same about anyone in the league this year.

Our hitting has been consistent most of the season but recently our pitching has really seemed to jell. Guys have found their role and seem comfortable. That is the big key for the post season. I just hope our defense doesn't screw us in a tight game.

I agree but I think Lemonis has recognized this, and just decided to go with offense, thus Gilbert at 3B and keeping Westburg at SS. Allen is not the best 1B either. I expect we will continue to see errors, we just have to hope we can out-slug the opponents.

I remember going to semifinal saturday in Hoover that year and watching us play Vanderbilt. The worst hitter in the starting 9 had an average of .320ish. you were lucky to get through the lineup without giving up a hit. didn't they go 26-3 in sec play that year?
