when you look at the recent top 5, top 8 in recruiting it corresponds to the teams who make the play-offs every year with 2 noticeable exceptions. one is aggsy, the other is his older brudder: texass. seems like year-in and year-out those 2 finish with gold-plated blue-blood guaranteed-best future football all stars....who later stumble to 7-5 irrelevancy. At least aggsy plays the worlds hardest schedule right?

A&M didn't have the toughest schedule until this season. The SEC has a scheduling feature that would actually have Auburn take the toughest schedule role annually. The SEC has each team in the East play every other team in the East and two in the West. Each West team does the same, with two crossovers.

But they each have one traditional crossover opponent that they play every season. A&M plays Mizzou every year, since they entered the conference at the same time. Auburn plays Georgia.

This season, the other A&M crossover was Georgia, which gave them temporarily the same challenge at Auburn. But last year, they played Mizzou and Vanderbilt. Not exactly as tough as anybody else in the West. But this season, since they not only played Georgia in the crossover, they also had the return OOC game with Clemson. So their claim of toughest schedule was a one season event.

Let's be reminded that A&M also joined their conference brethren this season, playing their other non conference games against Texas State, Lamar and UT San Antonio. I guess if they'd have gone 4-8, they'd have been calling themselves the champs of the Southland Conference.

Next year their non conference games are against Abilene Christian, North Texas, Fresno State and Colorado, all at home. Their crossover games are South Carolina and Vanderbilt. So if you're talking about A&M's under-performing historically, or projecting the future, the toughness of their schedule is considerably less daunting.
