Saw a recent interview in which Pike attributed success to staffing continuity. I know all coaches have a short list of potential replacements sure one of their staff leave; however I am interested in learning how relationships were built with the current staff.

Anyone have insight. He didn’t coach with all of them at Stonybrook.

Young he coached with at a stony Brook.

He was an assistant under K Hobbs at GW.

B Knight I’m not sure if he knew well but did a good job recruiting him to be on staff at RU when things were changing at Pitt.

I did not realize Pike was on Hobbs staff at GW. I thought the connection there was UConn basketball. I think your right about Knight. Right place right time. And, Hobbs was willing to sign off on making Knight an attractive offer after the others were on board. including another Stoney Brook guy who wound up going back there to coach the women's team.

I have been pleased that we have been able to maintain staff continuity during the build out phase of the program. Sounded as though Hobbs and Knight have had opportunities with Ewing and Capel respectively. If we get this going, Knight and Young will be candidates for lower level HC gigs in the next couple of years.

We were fortunate that Stony Brook did not hire Jay Young to be the HC there after Coach Pikiell left to RU. It would not be a surprise if Young and Brandin Knight were HC's next season in the low / mid major ranks. I am sure Coach P has a short list of 2-3 coaches to fill those roles in case that happens. All HC's have that short list in their head.

Is Hobbs looking for a head coach gig too or is he more content to be an assistant as he gets a little older?

I can't say for certain, but I think Hobbs has had his fill of being the head of a program. However, his knowledge of the game (on and off the court) is a much-wanted resource for many head coaches. He'll always be in demand as an assistant.
