basketball is dirty? i learned that the FBI needs a complete overhaul...

I am not sure the exact definition of entrapment but seeking out someone who is not breaking a law to offer money to start a business in order to pressure that individual to borderline break the law even though that individual continually tells you your idea is dumb and doesnt make sense ultimatly leading that individual to just take the money and either spend it or put it toward ideas that makes sense seems to me like it would be entrapment.

if Dawkins defrauded the schools by cheating than every single basketball coach who breaks any rule is defrauding their schools. Complete an utter nonsense.

I'd say both.

Basketball being dirty is certainly nothing new.

Making Dawkins into some type of hero was just as wrong. Guy oozed slime and while HBO tried to make him sympathetic, he was just as guilty and hardly entrapped. Couldn't stand him either. Makes you realize how awful the AAU stuff is and how sad that high school coaches lost alot of their influence.

The worst of all in my opinion is the coach of LSU. Want to take a shower after listening to him. So dirty,

It wasn't Archie Miller's finest moment but hard to find an actual NCAA violation let alone breaking the law.

Curiously, Pitino looks relatively good. Seems like he was the number one target and the FBI got nothing,

I personally thought the FBI came off looking like a bunch of idiot thugs. They invented these crimes from thin air. None of it was happening, or would have ever happened, if they didn’t show up with their bags of cash and stupid ideas on how to spend it. Where’s the justice in any of it?

The FBI definitely didn’t look good but rest assured, neither does college basketball. There is a lot more to this story.

I don’t doubt that. The quote from Will Wade in particular was not very cryptic. That guy is obviously as dirty as can be.

That said, the whole operation by the FBI was nothing but an ill conceived fishing expedition, a total waste of time and resources that produced nothing of value.

This.

Watching that documentary I was left pondering what type of powerbrokers inserted themselves into the investigation as things were unraveling for the universities. Dan Wetzel pointed out that the FBI had the universities and NCAA on the ropes and could have radically changed the entire system, but inexplicably chose not to. Why?

Well, i can think up several scenarios where a senator, congressman, CEO, hell even the president, made some calls. Suppressed evidence. In America, destruction of a 3 billion dollar a year industry isnt taken lightly.

So my thinking is exactly in line with Caliknight: theres a hell of a lot more to this story. Maybe one day we will see it all come to bear

I watched the Scheme tonight. As a college basketball fan, it’s a must watch. Here’s what I learned...

- The FBI F’d up the investigation big time.
- The NCAA called in favors to get their schools removed from the investigation.
- Will Wade is the biggest cheater in college basketball.

I'm not sure about that. There are some head coaches whose history is said to be bigger but they weren't on the phone with Dawkins

That was my take too. Lotta of above posters totally ignoring that Dawkins, while a smaller fish, was just as slimy too.

I dunno. I thought Dawkins' mom was likeable. Christian Dawkins was smart but too thirsty and the FBI seized on that.

Btw, back in September 2017 when this story broke, I thought "ASM Sports Agency? Andy Miller? Why am I familiar with them?" Then it hit me.

FWIW..... having just wasted 8 hours on McMillion$........ HBO documentaries on FBI investigations...... I'm a little wary on "accuracy" vs. "entertainment"...........

My buddy is a doc film maker, he's also the son of Bill Raf. He obviously has a lot of connections. It's a touchy subject given what his dad does, but he's been working on a film around all this. It's got some compelling information. I won't give too much away but he believes he has solid evidence that Zion Williamson's family got paid $1MM to go to Duke for one year, among some other bombshells.

Too thirsty? Compares himself to Gandhi and MLK? Puts his own name on players to be watched and sells it to college coaches? $42,000 in Uber charges? Really? Fraud from day one.

To be clear, I wasn't suggesting that Christian Dawkins is a likeable person. I've talked to runners & Dawkins is pretty much par for the course in my experience except he was too thirsty for success.

Btw, a teenager creating a scouting service, ranking himself No.1 and selling it to college coaches is hilarious to me. That he got away with it just fed into him thinking that he's smarter than everyone else.

It does not matter because it is the Old Boys Club. Other than some minor violations or garbage probations, the NCAA does not want to punish Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, Arizona, Louisville and all of the top dogs. Why mess with a multi billion dollar industry?

Even if it is true with Zion Williamson, does Raf's son want his dad to lose his easy job? Zion is a true star in the NBA and idolized by many and that is NOT changing. You know how many would lose out besides coach K and Duke including NCAA officials? The NCAA does not like to rock the boat. Time to give Cleveland State 3 years more probation.

Best of Luck,
Groz

Haven't we known college basketball is dirty for about past 20 years or more? There have been so many instances of people looking the other way to likely NCAA rule violations that one becomes numb to it. I have not watched the HBO program but the fact that there has been minimal changes in the roles played by AAU advisors and apparel companies in the recruiting process just goes to show you how rampant the subtle and no so subtle efforts are to direct kids to highest bidder. If we did not get a clean up after some of these coaches were caught red handed in this FBI case, we never will. And I am not taking about the Book Richardson's of the world but rather the Sean Miller's who had to be aware of anything Book was doing.

I’m a free market capitalist. So let this all be legal and give the players their market value. Most of the money being thrown around doesn’t even go to the players. It goes to their handlers or parents. It really is a bunch bs when you think about it

20 years? More like 70.
Kentucky did not play one season in the early 50's due to violations.
They've been paying players forever.
