Are people in 118 told not to cheer and wear neutral colored clothing?
This is one of the most amazing things to me. This is becoming a pet peeve. In the third row there is one fan who, when he does wear red, has some other overpowering color on so you don't see the red. For the price of admission, at least give them a red t-shirt to wear.

If I was fortunate to get tickets there for a game, let's say this Sunday against Minnesota, I would wear a red Rutgers shirt and be into the game, cheer, yell, have a good time

Yes - the whole RAC atmosphere is dead because they reorganized 100 seats. Please.

Bigger issue is students learning how to cheer for hoops again. That will come.

If you want to old man complain, at least pick on the move away from the Pep Band to more digital sound. That is valid, and probably never coming back. Issue across the country.

Hobbs chose $ over atmosphere and home court advantage with the new 118

Guys - lets be real . 118 was not providing atmosphere in its former state. Those seats were often not filled and was such an eye sore when they were not. Plus it didn't have that rowdy of people at all. More or less the same fans that are occupying the rest of the 100s.

And I think guesstimating 100 seats is very generous. I would've guessed about 40 seats there. I'm sure someone here either knows or could easily accurately determine what the capacity actually was.

It wasn't "just any ol 100 seats" but some of our best adult long time fans who were right in the other team's face. Tell me how many other P5 teams have an end court like this?

Well , the conversation turned to Hobbs going for the $$. So it would be irresponsible for someone not to bring up the area where he’s bleeding cash
And yet, he’s still trying to improve the program through new facilities, etc.

Imho Hobbs is doing the right thing trying to make $ for bball. But he had and has other options to get it vs. Turning our court into a pro VIP area.

Not sure what happened to the section in the students opposite the band, but it’s like our student section was cut in half. They need to divide the riot squad to be in the front rows of both sections and stand to force the students behind to stand. Ideally if we grew the riot squad enough you could have a couple games where you ask them to split up into groups of 3ish and plant them throughout the sections there to rule up the rest of the kids who won’t get off snapchat. But this is all me dreaming, like people said Hobbs has more to do than spend time sending a simple email or meeting with the riot squad president, he’s busy forgetting to schedule garbage pickup at the RAC

118 when we we winning was
They should:
1. Split 118 into 2 sections with an opening behind the hoop.
2. Have the cheerleaders/dance team in that gap.
3. Add rows again closer to the court for those 2 former 118 sections and the student section.

Really brutal giving up that advantage of having the crowd right on the court.

It was the wrong decision. Could have made press boxes fancy sections. Don’t see Duke putting an airport bar behind the baskets.

So you like the look of high school bleachers, because that’s what 118 was. Gotcha.

I know most arenas dim the lights over the fan seating nowadays, but I always wonder if our old lighting was more intimidating to opponents, having all stands in full view of the opposing players.

I loved it like that. It must have felt like the entire place was a time warp back to 1985 (except we usually played pretty well)

I've been thinking the same thing. It's much more impressive/intimidating when you can see a rabid student section as the backdrop. I like the old lighting much better.

I'd be all for lighting up the stands if fans pack them consistently

When there are many empty seats you don't want to spotlight them

Great listen on the Waters show.

Pike should make our guys watch some of those segments

Particularly how that team approached free throw (develop a routine, how to relax, how to use your mind and body, visualize the ball going in; they were 2nd best in Big East at the time), and how Marquis Webb focused on locking down on D (reminds me of Mathis).

Also loved the feature on the RAC and the atmosphere created by the fans (and students).
All current students should be forced to watch that segment.
That is what the student section is supposed to look like.

Thanks for posting, kevH!

And what a novel concept - all of the students wore red to the game back then. That’s what a student section should look like.
