You’ll be seeing 2-7 teams in to lolDoes this mean, all the 4-5 teams, and most of the 3-6 teams will be given a playoff birth?
EDIT: I'm too lazy to figure it out myself.
Class 1-6A it goes to the top 8 in the N/S 7/8A is the top 10 I believeWho do the Byes goto.
Top 16 in 7A and 8A actually. Correct on 1-6AClass 1-6A it goes to the top 8 in the N/S 7/8A is the top 10 I believe
Souce did a scenario with the 384 teams. Not sure if that's how it's going to play out, but I thought it was 1-16 gets a bye.Who do the Byes goto.
Don't think teams get rid of the Week 0 Scrimmages. They'll likely just move it up a week honestly or maneuver around to make it work. Why get rid of the scrimmage?
They probably won't but the good news is that this is meant to benefit some of those programs that are at least somewhat competitive but don't necessarily make the playoffs each year. At least those kids who put all this work in will have a shot to play in an extra game.Im sure everyone will handle this rationally and with a level head

Week Zero will be the new start of the regular season. That puts opening night on Aug 21. 16 more playoff teams per class. 384 playoff teams. Hot of the presses. I’m pretty surprised, but it passed by more than 100 votes
And the IHSA’s method of seeding goes from something pretty meaningless to hugely important. You will have 9-0 CPS teams awarded byes. Ouch!Week Zero will be the new start of the regular season. All.... 6A play in game. #10 Esl (H) #23 TF South winner @ Chicago Goode . Your Crusaders #20 is a play in game as well at #13 Waterloo. Then off to Rochester. This was for 2025 according to Soucie. RatsySo ... where does this place ESL in the brackets
there's nothing different about that, they start in round of 32, just like now.And the IHSA’s method of seeding goes from something pretty meaningless to hugely important. You will have 9-0 CPS teams awarded byes. Ouch!

Depends on the conference/schedule. Edgy mentions it in his video take. You could see some 3 win teams winning some playoff games from the better conferences.Sweet, more rewarding mediocrity. Big picture I don't see this being earth shattering, there will just be an extra round of playoff games that are poorly attended and blow outs.
Congrats to teams like Roxana and Monticello, here's your participation trophy.
Exception, not the rule. Not worth adding 128 teams to the field.Depends on the conference/schedule. Edgy mentions it in his video take. You could see some 3 win teams winning some playoff games from the better conferences.
Why? The playoffs just start a week earlier so the round of 32 will still be the same week it always has been. I don't see how prep bowl schedule would change. Will this be the end of the Prep Bowl?
Assuming most CPS schools win their first round game?? I suppose that's one theory. In the new format 21 of the 24 CCL teams would likely qualify for the playoffs. Assuming most will win their first round game or even have a bye. How many will jump back into the Prep Bowl after a loss?
That was my initial thought but just a quick look and there should be some movement but nothing major because it will just be worse teams but the same class. So one thing I think has made some people a fan of this is the idea that private schools would be pushed up to higher classes. But is that the case? From looking at the projected field, I didn't really notice any obvious movement. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong on that.
But conceptually, does it even make sense? Like, is there some reason smaller schools would be a disproportionate number of the 3 & 4 loss teams? I guess maybe they have lower playoff points, but that would probably be the same for 2 loss teams.
Absolutely agree with a lot of your points. I was more so sarcastically implying that people will wig out about this just for the sake of wigging out about change. They probably won't but the good news is that this is meant to benefit some of those programs that are at least somewhat competitive but don't necessarily make the playoffs each year. At least those kids who put all this work in will have a shot to play in an extra game.
Some disagree but the IHSA and voters clearly are trying to have the sport be more equitable and accessible here, which is fine by me. Some programs put a lot of work in but don't see the playoffs because of the tough conference and schedules they have to play each season.
It'll be at least 2 to 3 seasons before we can actually evaluate whether or not this proposal fully worked to be honest.
