Here’s my prediction :
1. The following players will enter the portal: Jmike, j will, grant, Sommerville. Leaving us with Dortsch, Ogbole and Dercack left.
2. I don’t expect there will be any coaching changes. The same assistant crew will be there next year. If there was a new AD there might be changes mandated.
3. There will be a GM, but the name won’t be anyone that will be an NIL game changer.
4. There won’t be any early news about portal guys coming in.
5. Pike will defend this season by arguing that we had good kids from great families, graduation rates, etc.

I don’t think any one can argue with the above, unless you think Dercack and Dortsch might be on the way out too.

How many wins in league and overall next year?
I’ll wait til the dust settles on that one. But considering we’ve had back to back losing seasons with no ace and dylan coming in, it seems likely a third losing season in a row is more than possible. And if looks like it’s trending that way next season and we have a new competent AD, Pike is gone.

Pike will have plenty of minutes to offer in transfer portal. He will have to replace 40 points per game from Ace and Dylan along with contributions that are leaving from Acuff and Martini. Shame Acuff was unable to fully recover from foot injury from summer as he started to play better in second half of season. Basically there is 50-60 points going out the door, not including freshmen who may leave.

Need to get two high level scoring transfers plus a defensive shot blocking / rebounding big man. Of course, there will be no GM in place to manage this process until next season.

How much faith do we have in Pike after last 2 seasons? He is always one year behind the curve when it comes to adapting to changes in college sports.

Yep. Pretty much sums up the likely outcome. Great job Pikiell.

I think some are jumping the gun. I don’t think Williams is going anywhere. I hope that Somerville and Grant and Dortch all return. They all seem to be close friends. They all will get plenty of minutes. I have no idea if any of them will get a million dollar NIL offer. If they do I think we might have a problem keeping them but it would be a nice nucleus if they return and add in our four commitments in our recruiting class which is rated quite good. I know the players seem to like Pike so it would be nice if we can retain the three freshmen. That would be a plus but so many players think the portal is the way to go but that is not always the answer. I have faith that the freshmen might just return.

Sure they like Pike. No real accountability.

Player retention and Continuity is important, even if all come back, there’s still 3 or 4 spots for portal guys to come in, and 2 or 3 could be starters. We just can’t trust their decision making on taking guys in, considering Spencer is the only portal guy that we’ve hit on

This team needs 2 scoring and defending guards, a point guard especially, and an experienced rim protector that can play 20-25 mins if Lathan expects to be a 30 minutes 5 man

The portal market for non-starters with unimpressive stats on an under achieving B1G team with a history of disappointing transfers in the portal era ...is not strong and made up almost entirely of teams outside the power conferences ...and has no NIL $$$ at all. Only Sommerville is looking at 6 digits.

Why Grant and the Ville? Hope Grant stays. Ville can go.
i think you guys are wrong on Sommerville wishing him to leave

he was a freshman big there are very few that are polished on both sides of the court as 18 year olds it is the slowest position of development and guys like Queen at Maryland are few and far between at that age

he has a good skill set and if he can be taught defense and footwork he will be a very good big

He will recruit better players for next years team. He will have profit sharing as Greg had this past off season. It’s not rocket science money talks and old men complain on message boards.
And his eye for talent lately tells you this? Next year will probably be much worse. And profit sharing, don’t all our competing schools for said good players also get profit sharing money. Where’s our advantage?

I think mostly this, But if he can't grab a couple of really good proven players with some leadership , experience, and defense we are looking at another disappointing season.

I go back to my opinion that he had to take the players he took for this years team because he had no NIL money. With profit sharing he won’t have to depend on this ****** cheap unrealistic fan base who wants to win knows the rules on roster formation but still donate NOTHING.

Somerville is the worst defensive player we’ve had in a long time. I don’t care what he scores. Unless Pike can figure out how to play a rim protector next to him there isn’t a spot on the team for him.

I think next year's team will be better than this year. With Ace & Dylan gone, take their NIL $ and distribute to 4-5 guys instead of just 2. We may not have 5*, but maybe more 4&3* that fit our team defense first mentality will be a better overall approach.

This is true! Really needs to become a better defender. Maybe he can be better at the 4 spot

I’ll stick with what I started. WVU’s Jon Holton and/or Elijah Macon. 2014-15. Look them up. Not super stars. A replica of either of them (preferably both) or Lathan as the vision for next year? If you could pick - who ya got?

I’m operating under the assumption Lathan won’t stick around if we acquire this level of competition for his position.

A lot of their NIL was from external sources because they are one and done projected Top 3 picks. Additionally, the NIL that was provided by an RU alum to acquire players in the portal was most likely a one time deal because of their presence on the squad this year. So it's not as much as you may be thinking.

Agree that Somerville is not a true center more so on the defensive side. Kid has offensive talent and see him as a traditional four.

How many times does this need to be covered? It clearly been said that the big money was there ONLY because it was Dylan and Ace. Beyond that it wasn’t much which should increase for next year. So next year while overall funding may be less the pool for players (cause we ain’t getting a Dylan or Ace) should be higher.
