I'm not even religious.
Another guy chosen to be the next closest person to god. Laughing

Maybe he can focus on getting the Church to do Church things, stay out of politics and start arresting child molesters in their own ranks. But hey. I dream.

Not a catholic but have been following this. I think it was a compromise. Picked a 🇺🇸 cardinal in hopes of putting money in the coffers but not reversing coarse on Francis. At his age he could be there for a long time

There is nothing they do that is not tied to money. Period.

I find the attention and conversation (be it positive or negative) just reaffirms the relevance after all these centuries. A lot of people care one way or the other whether they are willing to admit it or not.

The united states churches are the largest donor to the Vatican. And the Vaticans finances aren't good. And guess who's giving has gone down considerably under Pope Francis?? I think the catholic church would like to scale back some of their recent woken essay but are nervous. The Vatican also needs to repair relationships with Americans. Pope Leo appears to be more aligned with Francis philosophically wise but hoping that he's American by birth, can be the compromise between the 2

never know until they start making decisions. for example, liberal justice david souter was appointed to the scotus by president bush; john paul stevens by ford; earl warren by ike.

from what i have heard about pope leo, he's likely going to be moderate with focus on administrative needs of the body church. he will be cautious and reserved unlike pope francis who was too often unclear and seen at times as flippant.

Tend to agree. They've had and talked about tackling the administration part but no one's done it. Agree that Leo has best shot at tackling it

there are 1.5 billion catholics around the world. that's ~20% of the world's population. they are not all saints. they are not all competent. the church is a vessel through which we practice our faith, not worship its clergy. throughout history there have been some truly awful popes. hopefully, leo is not one of them.

I grew up in the Catholic Church. I now despise everything it represents. I am a staunch Bible believing Christian.

That said I read where Francis packed the cardinal court with his adherents and added more of them to the total. It appears to be a move to keep his programs going. Leo has already bashed Trump and Vance especially over emigration. Corruption has always been their hallmark and moto.

I’ve got a wonderful relationship with God. And I think the Vatican is corrupted beyond belief
So is America. You and I cannot control the Vatican, but we are obligated by "government by the people, for the people" as American citizens to control elected officials that are more interested in corruption for personal wealth than "government by the people, for the people."
