The morning after

What a downer… as we were sitting in the stands with Iowa just scoring the TD and I had a thought “this could be the time Iowa turns the corner and beats a big boy” then looked at the clock and then around the stadium and you could just see it the fans were worried with all that time left… I didn’t have a good feeling about it as they drove with ease down the field I was hoping and praying for a fumble recovery with about 30 seconds left … damn! That was one of the hardest losses I have seen in Kinnick in a long time … We will be back for one last game with the MSU game and wrap the season up but this was one of those so darn close yet but so far away… breaks my heart and the kids played their hearts out…anyways go hawks at least we are here for 2 more nights

Yah, it's weird how losing a game like that is such an emotional gut punch. But that's why sports is such a popular pastime. You get invested as a fan, and the outcome matters. I have sat through rain like yesterday and even blizzards, so I have the utmost respect for you and the other 70,000 folks who roared for 60 minutes in an effort to help the Hawkeyes bring this one home. That it was snatched away, again, in the final moments takes your breath away. It was a valiant effort, and Iowa and the fans deserved better. It'll take a while to get over this one and all this season could have been.

I have to admit. For the last 5 years or so I have been pretty indifferent towards Iowa football. Meaning still watching but pretty much over it wether we win or lose 10-15 minutes after the game. Not sure why but this is the first time in a long time that I woke up on Sunday still bummed about the loss. The boys played hard.

This. I'd pretty apathetic the last few years after the clear gap formed between Iowa and top teams. Didn't expect to take this one so hard, but .. alas... here I am posting in the football forum

I donno, when they scored the TD my wife asked if I was excited and I said "no."

Just felt like after the missed conversion that it was going to be same old story.

Oh well.

I'm a Broncos fan and after that one super bowl where they got their piss kicked in by the Seahawks, I've pretty much stopped getting upset by sports. It is what it is.

How did you get in my head? I agree. I wasn't there, but I felt the same, hoping for a last minute "Break." If ever the defense had to rise above and beyond, it HAD to be there, but unfortunately they couldn't stop the pass attack that the Ducks mounted with five strikes and to two rushes in the last 1:51 of the game. It was a great effort, but the better team won this day.

A lot to be encouraged about though anytime you lose like that it hurts. The 2 point conversions have been a problem for a decade. Could of cost us against Penn State too. A lot of times the playcall boils down to low probability pass in the corner of endzone. Personally I'd like to see us try to run it more but we desperately need to improve in creativity and execution on those plays.

Agree, the perfect set up. Home game with horrible weather, taking Quacks air game away. Quacks missing a bunch of their best players. National media all picking the Hawks. B10 refs delivering a possible going-away gift to KF with no penalties on the Hawks. Gronk taking over the game. But, the Oline and Dline got their asses handed to them. And PP choked under pressure just like vs Indiana. Yes, a big fail.

Phil Parker gets all kinds of credit for being a great defensive coordinator. He does a good job of keeping the score down. He has, however, not figured out how to stop anyone on their final drive. Iowa's last-minute defense has been horrible. He gets lots of kudos from fans and media but deserves criticism for the 3 losses this year, all on the opponent's final drive. Add the ISU loss last year to that trio of games.

If you play great defense for 57 minutes and score a reasonable amount of points, you don't have to worry about that last 3 minute drive.

great defense? They certainly did enough, but if this game does point things out, our LB core needs to be addressed, maybe in the portal. I think Buffington will be the next great LB coming out of Iowa, but the second level was hemorrhaged during this game.
