I wish Jerry Recco and Joe Boylan were TV announcers.... they call a GREAT game!
I think they are not at all good. Fine them hard to listen to. Especially if I can't find listen all the time.
I miss Bruce and the even older school, Tony Morano. Plus Dick Lloyd of course
Agree not a fan of Jerry and Boylan. Would go back to Carlin and Lloyd in a minute. I know Carlin not lives in this board but I like him on play by play.
Slightly off topic, but I always found it interesting that when Dick Lloyd retired he was replaced by a guy even older than him.
Bruce will always be the standard by which our other basketball play by player announcers would be judged. Had a great understanding of the importance of describing the geography of where the ball and players were on the court.

Earlier in the year, Geo took a step back 3 and was called for a travel. I forget what game it was but the announcer said it was a point of emphasis this year. It was the first thing that came to mind when I saw him step back in this game for the winner. I know you are supposed to land with both feet at the same time (which he didn't BTW) but I havent seen it called anywhere else.
Not sure if was a 1&1 situation or 2 free throws, but either way, it would give Nebraska time to score to tie or win. Based on my count, Nebby had 8 fouls so was a 1&1 situation. Granted, you don't want give up the free throws, but at least you would have 5-6 seconds to set up a play as that's when the announcer figured they should foul. 5-6 seconds is an eternity. At best, Geo misses the front end and you set up a winning play needing only a 2. At worst, he makes both and you still could win on a 3. At least the game is in your hands instead of hoping he doesn't hit a shot with time expiring.
Yeah I get that logic. I guess it just wouldn’t be my approach. I wouldn’t give away free points. Strong defense and play for overtime.
He was saying if Baker had a clean drive to the rim for a layup that they should foul which makes sense because it was still only a 1+1 at that point.
That is only if the ball is already picked up before the step back. The jump back would be the one step allowed, but Gio's back foot was already planted when the ball was being picked up. The foot that does not move is the pivot foot at that time. Watch it again and slow it down. There was no travel there.
Depends. If you're the home team, you play defense as I would think you have the advantage in OT. As the away team, you might want a chance to win in regulation. Similar thinking would apply for an underdog. Considering Nebby was hitting their 3's that game, I would roll the dice if I were them. That would give them a roughly 40% chance of winning in regulation (assuming they get a decent shot off) vs. no chance to win in regulation & hoping to outlast the home team in OT. If it was double bonus, a definite no no, but 1&1 makes it even more tempting.
I will admit I really don't understand the new interpretation of the rule. He clearly takes two steps back after picking up the ball. At 4.1 seconds he has two hands on the ball and both feet forward, at 3.9 secs he starts a step back with left foot, after which he he steps back with his right foot starting at 3.8 secs. The left foot steps back and lands before he picks up the right foot so it is more like two steps then a jump.
it was a while discussion they started earlier in the game. Because it was a 1 and 1 the color guy thought they should foul before the shot on amy drive to the basket. I didn’t agree.
Pretty sure he qualified it by saying if Rutgers ballhandler (Geo) blows buy his man then UN has to foul.
No, it doesn't depend. As rubaseball said, you don't ever do that in a tie game. Ever.
