Texas swagger, we’re better than everyone else because we make more money.

Most fans brag about their team’s performance on the field.

Texas is different, If you say anything that isn’t 100% positive about Texas, Longhorn fans lash out by responding, “Oh, yeah, well we make more money than you do!”

Sports are about winning titles, not about making money. Yet this is the foundational argument of Texas Longhorn athletics, “We’re richer than you!”

At first I was confused by this, why were Longhorn fans, most of whom couldn’t afford a used truck without selling their platelets first, spending so much time about how much money Texas made?

I was guilty of what I’ll call the Texas fallacy, a belief, rooted in media laziness, that Texas was better than it actually was. But dive into the record book’s recent history and you learn something astounding, despite all the money Texas athletics make, the Longhorns don’t actually win very much. Once I knew this, everything about Texas fans made sense. The only thing modern Texas fans can really brag about is the money their athletic department makes.

While every other team is focused on trying to win, the Longhorn fan base just wants to brag about how much money the university made playing sports last year.

At least Texas and its fans have something in common now — they’re both all hat, no cattle.

Texas does have 45 NCAA recognized National Titles and if you add football and women's championships before the NCAA recognized women's sports
Texas has over 50+

Only behind the California schools

If you include individuals championships Texas has well over 400.
Third most

Only behind Stanford and USC

California schools had the distinct advantage until the late 1990's because of youth coaching.
Their youth development was light years ahead of the rest of the country

Texas and Florida are catching up.

The Top 5 athletic departments are
Stanford
UCLA
Texas
USC
Florida

No one is really close

Very easy to cherry pick statistics

You can't use arbitrary dates.
You have to compare programs all time or at the current time.

Pitt is not even in the discussion.
They were blown out by a G5 team.

Last time Texas lost to a G5 team...
1993. Louisville who is now a P5 team.

So when is 902 wins not that much.

West Virginia is a prideful state. That is a good thing. CFB is all about where you are from or where you went to school.
Professional sports cannot touch the passion involved in College Sports.

But.........

Some states have an advantage that others do not. God blessed Texas with tremendous amount of resources that we have capitalized on.
Once Texas moved passed oil and agriculture in the 1990's the state has became ever richer.

If WV wants to win and compete against the Texas and Oklahoma schools they are going to need the people of their state to give them millions of dollars

Or WV can became like Arkansas and the fans and people of the state make money to give back to WVU.
Don Tyson and Jerry Jones are perfect examples

And apparently most of the fan base would rather post on a WVU message board than one for Texas, which continues to befuddle me.

.

If you're an ugly girl with a great pair of boobs, you emphasize the boobs.

That's what Texas fans do. UT's football team chronically underperforms but it has a lot of money, so that's what they brag about.....

I thought this was about the state of Texas, not that college in Austin? I like the state or I wouldn't have spent part of my life there.

Yep, that Austin place is damned odd, ask anyone in College Station.

The only good thing to come out of Austin was a character named Roky Erickson and he was baying at the moon crazy. He and his band, The 13th Floor Elevators, got this Janis chick to come out to the Bay Area with them and the rest is history.

The Elevators had an electric jug player. There's something you don't see everyday.

Almost went to Texas, had an Aunt and Uncle who lived in Round Rock and I could have gone there for 6 months and gotten in-state tuition. Decide to stay home instead.

Going to the game in November though, 6th Street is always a blast.

Not to mention Harry Choates
The greatest fiddler of all time who brought Cajun music to a wide audience.

His legend is even greater because he has half crazy and ended up dying in the Travis County Jail in Austin.

Without his influences you wouldn't have half the music you do today

Research Alan Lomax
He is the reason why people have an understanding of Americana music.

He got a grant from the Library of Congress to record American musicians in the South.
His named touched almost every famous musician in the South during this time
His recordings went to England and is the reasoning for bands like the Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin.
They studied American blues musicians that he recorded.

Lomax is a Texas ex and is one of the main reasons why Austin is the Live Music Capital of the World

His Grandson put the entire Lomax Archives up on Youtube a couple of years back for free. It's an invaluable resource.

The last I heard Roky Erickson was living with a couple in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Mount Washington that look after him. Talk about a casualty of Tim Leary's and Ken Keasey's B.S., psychedelics put him way over the edge. His cover of "Baby Blue" is still one of my favorite songs.

Dude I own you haha. WVU > Texass Pitt = Texass.

Can we now move past Texass being anywhere near WVU and start discussing the fact that over the last 8 years Texass is no better than Pitt?
