"they did it first!" is not an acceptable excuse for a 6 year old, much less a Blue Blood college football program.
Only not acceptable to yours truly right..

As I recall Michigan or Ohio State got out of a series recently too.
Nor sure which one it was.

Rather push the stadium renovations back a year or two and play a real program than sacrifice the one good noncon game for a glorified practice (that you can still lose).

Anyone else see the irony in using money as an excuse in the current climate we live in, where all i hear about is how oligarchy everything is and how evil it is because of...wait for it...money?

I don't mind this one bit, our BIG schedule is tough enough already and besides we aren't ready for Tennessee as it stands right now. I already knew there would be an outcry of some so-called fans once this series was cancelled, it was just something else to ***** about.

That is a bad look for N. Adds even more pressure for Rhule to have some real success.

Bill Synder approves. Those old enough to remember his purple kitties non-con scheduling in the 90s will understand

Playing real competition gets you better. Playing less skilled opponents (that you can still lose to) adds nothing especially if the goal is to truly win championships. This looks like a move to guarantee a better shot at making a bowl game, not a statement on being relevant again nationally. I want to see Nebraska be relevant again nationally and these games do nothing towards achieving that goal, can only hinder it.

When I saw the headline I was assuming it was going to replace the Tennessee game with another SEC team (Oklahoma/Mizzou) as a crossover series for theSEC - B1G alliance … to see that not happen is beyond disappointing. Not a good look.

Indiana makes the playoff with an OOC schedule of FIU, Western Illinois and Charlotte, and you guys still want to play Tennessee? Dumb.

This is lame. What a BS excuse to cancel. What an opportunity missed when Tennessee would have come to Lincoln. That atmosphere would be electric.

That’s just it by then B1G and SEC will each have 4 guaranteed playoff spots. Opening up SEC to play 9 conference games and allowing crossover games. Weak sauce by canceling.

That is not a terrible point, but did they cancel a good (game) program last season? ..and I hold Nebraska in higher regard than Indiana...and nobody would care if we didn't already have em on the schedule. Its a weak look

I hope Karma doesn’t roll into Lincoln and kick our ***.

Feels like it’s out of the Frost / Moos playbook.

That would be a nice trip for me and Knoxville is a great college town. However, they have a stadium revenue number they want to hit for budgetary needs.

Why would they push back renovations what does that accomplish? Be real about it

deal with it. People been saying for a couple of years we won’t be seeing many of these types of series anymore.
You will see series like this when conferences make agreements for crossover play. I'm assuming the games will be tiered according the competitive level. NU v. Fla/TN/Kentucky, maybe some day NU vs. Bama/Georgia.

Acting like Nebraska is the only team moving away from P4 opponents in the non-con is clueless. No coach in the country wants to play a top 25 non-con opponent week 3 of the season. They all want to do away with conf title games too. It sucks because of course fans want to see these games.

If that's true then this whole debate is pointless. We're not skirting anything that wasn't going to get changed anyway. Two years from now is impossible to predict with the way college football is changing minute-by-minute.

"we want 8 home games!"

"the spring game is canceled!"

can't have it both ways, cowards.
Spring game was a head coaching decision has no bearing on non conference series .

No one is more disappointed about canceling this series.. Been wanting to to Knoxville since I was working but instead had to to Eugene and now I won’t get a chance to take a boat ride to the stadium which I was very much looking forward too.

Your can’t have both ways is Bull$&it..

Great move to get this mill stone around our necks taken off as we were about to be thrown into the rough sea that is Tennessee. I know there are those that just love seeing Nebraska trashed so they have talking points after the thrashing Nebraska receives. A leopard doesn't change its spots, and we know who the Leopards are.
