True but that didn't cost the game. What about the poor tackling, what about the big plays being giving up, what about the very bad OL play and lack of pass protection? What about the missed TD by N. Hunter?

Meh. My feeling is that if you can’t pick that up you don’t deserve to won the game…but the traditional safe play is to take the points.
We witnessed failure in the same situation against Akron and Houston Baptitst. What makes anybody think they were going to get 2 yards there?

3 there is great. A TD there is great.

The only thing that sucks there is what happened.

I'm a big go for it in those situations. But it needed to be a lot shorter. i think they were trying to get it with the run on 3rd down but they got very little on it. 3 for sure then don't miss a FG we had 6 points just hanging out there.

Second and four inside the seven yard line and we threw a low percentage fade route. Then get stuffed on third down. So by all means, go for it on 4th down and a long two and run it right up the gut again for one yard. Stupid.
In a game you know is going to be a dogfight to the wire where 3 points might just be the difference (and it was) you take the easy 3 points in that situation. Especially since, coach Rhule must know that his offensive line can’t run block worth a crap.

Still chasing 3.
i am all for going for it on 4th and shorts. I appreciate those mindsets.
however, when you built an entire offseason and season on “chasing 3” and 3 was presented right before you and you chose ‘No Thanks’ as your response tells me you don’t practice what you preach.

Another gimmick that didn't work.

Had it second and three and they go 5 wide and throw a corner route to our shortest WR. As soon as I saw that stupid low percentage call I knew we were screwed.

Our coaching is a major issue. The fact that it’s year 3 and our OL is just as embarrassing as day one is a colossal failure. That’s not just on the OL coach. It goes to the top. As a leader you identify where you need work and you work. Our OL has cost us game after game.

I will give them credit for special teams. That is light years better and proves how important coaching is

I don't think the decision to go for it early was necessarily wrong, but it turned out to the balance in the game. But of course the math of the scoring would have probably played out differently. Its importance is this I think - it would have made it less likely that NU would fallen behind by two scores. And that would have changed the play calling by Holgerson for most of the game.
In a game against Michigan, I think you take the points when you get an opportunity to get them.

9 of 10 coaches would have kicked the field goal and taken the points. Smart coaches take the points in big games like that. We have the 1 coach out of 10 that goes for it in that situation. And guess what, he still hasn't beaten a ranked team. Just stupid. We go up 3-0, then 6-0.. who knows what could have been. Nope. Next thing you know it's 10-0 Michigan. Smh.

I thought we played well against Michigan. But we have to take the points when we get them. Take the three. Make the 45 yarder, too. Then we have a different ball game.

I'm not embarrassed about Nebraska's play. Our OL didn't seem to be able to block against Michigan's DL. Is that how bad we are or how good they are?

It was points and momentum. There were a lot more momentum shifting plays and officiating calls in this game than people admit. That false start call was a big one. As was the no call pass interference. To our benefit was the taunting penalty which led to a field goal for us. Had that not happened we probably lose by 17.

4 times this year NU has went for it on 4th and short. 3 times times we failed.

Cincy 4th and 2 from the 43...pass failed.
Cincy 4th and 2 from the 3...td pass to Key.
H.C. 4th and 2 from the 2....run failed.
Mich 4th and 2 from the 6....run failed.

I don't give a crap what the analytics say, OUR analytics say we don't make it more often than not.
Take the 3.

I think this is the most pointless “what if” in recent memory. At no point was Michigan ever in any danger of losing control of this game. The only mind numbing decision by them was allowing us to go for the Hail Mary, rather than taking a time out and forcing us to punt.

Agree. At no point in the game was Michigan ever in position to lose.

You don't watch much football these days if you believe 90% of coaches kick the field goal there.
