you don't have to be friends to send him a message.... go to his page and click where it says "message" on the main picture.
who knows how often he's on facebook so not getting a quick friend request accepted is not unusual...
I avoid facebook but I do have an account but haven't posted for over two years. It is great way to find people sometimes!!
