Why is 1/3rd of the student section still non-students sitting on their butts?

Are these giveaways? Can we not fill up the student section?

I don’t get it.

I’ve also never in my life - and Lord knows how many games and how many different arenas - have I seen Multiple empty rows behind the band.

Are there not enough students at the game to fill those rows up which, in turn, would make it a good thing that they sold 108? Or is this a choice by the school to not allow anyone to sit there which is just stupid as ****??

According to 1 poster there're 15,345 students at every home game....so none of this can be possible ...[cheers]

Just can’t get enough students who will stand and care for some reason. Last season when we played SHU at the RAC and won there were students packed in with the tubas and trumpets in the back rows of the band because there wasn’t enough room. Not sure where the students have gone this year with the rest of the RAC selling out a bunch

When you have professors who indoctrinate their students to hate athletics, this is what happens.

I get annoyed Every single time they show that end of the floor and you see 109 standing and 108 sitting on their asses. Why can’t our school just be ******* normal for once?!

There are not enough students going to the game period

Ones who were there were decent but the section is nowwhere near even the Rice years let alone those from Waters and Bannon

its not about the crowd being tremendous, which it was...best since SHU last year but the student section is nowhere near what it used to be...in number and in how they are into the game...and Im just comparing it to even Rice or some Fred Hill years. There are not enough of them coming, we have half of one section with people that I am not sure actually are students.

Here we go again.....fans who sit on their asses at home watching the game on TV complaining about fans who actually attend the games!!!!

I had a conflict, otherwise I would have been there.

Asking an honest question - is the AD giving out a bunch of freebies or selling tickets in the student section?

Can the students not fill the whole section?

When I was a student during the Hill/Rice years we filled pretty much the whole section for games like tonight, not 1/2 of it.

What’s going on?

I don't think there were that many non-students for the Iowa game. The problem is they seem to rope off at least 4 or 5 bottom rows of Section 110 for almost every game now and it's filled up with obviously dispassionate/neutral families or non-fans who were given freebies either for some sort of recruiting or youth groups or whatever. And it sticks out like a sore thumb. It used to be like once or twice a year, Schiano would make a big show of having football recruits take up a good-sized portion of one section but now every game there it seems at least a decent portion set aside for these mysterious civilians even when there is demand like there was for Iowa since student allotment was used up.

That's because for those who do go to a game, if you plant your ***, barring health issues, you are simply a bad fan.

Absolutely not true at least during the Hill years. It was very empty very often.

Agreed, student section is ******* weakkk. I think it’s more a sign of the times. Im only 27 years old but that 5-9 year gap between me and college kids is a new generation. All these kids do is sit on their phones and I think they do that during the games too. At the NW game these two college girls sat courtside and had their heads BURIED in their phones for the full 40 minutes. And only looked up to get on the jumbotron and take a snap of it

Plus Schiano would also attend some games by himself or with his kids. I may have missed it but I don't see other coaches except maybe Goodale that show up.

I said games like tonight. Aka games against ranked opponents.

We put way more students in the stands then the amount showing up this year.

Didn't see Ash against Iowa but he and his wife sat midcourt in Section 113/114 last game (Garutti's seats?) and on the baseline in front of student section before that. Not sure it means anything though.

I graduated in 2013 and for games against ranked opponents we had a really rockin student sections. We also completely and totally berated the opposing coaches and players, brutally. Jamie dixon tried getting me thrown out during a media timeout once for talking about his 5 head and hair plugs. We need more dirtbag students like myself. Ya know what though? At one point last night about 20 students In the front row of the student section were really getting on the Iowa bench during a media time out and the Iowa bench was jawing with them

Hill era as bad as it was still had a few near sellout type games with students involved

As the program is getting better the students need to get better and that is by recognizing this is a good team

We need sellouts our last two and overflow student sections

A lot of Hill era students were there for 05-06, some were even there for 03-04, and really wanted a reason to come back and go crazy in big games. After the back to back wins over ranked Villanova and Pitt in 2008 we packed the place for SHU but saw a close loss and it killed the momentum.

Then in Nov 2008 I think they were weary of a weird football season (still 4-5 when hoops started), excited for Rosario and Echenique, and showed up big for the first few games. Then we lost to Lehigh and no one really gave the program much of a chance again until 2011 or so

You are so right Tru2RU. Led by our #1 know-it-all who rarely goes to any games. He is critical of a full house tonight. The crowd was tremendous.

Best of Luck,
Groz

Actually ...the crowd was good....but it didn’t do enough in some possessions in a tight game in the last four possessions that the thought it would be “same old Rutgers “

The place should have been crazy on every possession from the 4 minute on

It's a little tougher psychologically to get up in the final minutes when your team has led most of the way and has recently conceded the lead. If RU was down 15 most of the way and got it down to 4 with 2 to play, the place would be pure anarchy. To be down 4 to a stronger team when you held a 2-5 point lead most of the way feels a little ominous

Ash is from Iowa, even he had enough sense to stay away. I could imagine him celebrating after the final shot ;)

The people in college now have no idea how to live in the moment and be themselves. They pretend to enjoy themselves so they can post it on 4 types of social media...instead of, ya know...actually enjoying themselves. The students have been pathetic in both major sports for several years now.
