My family and friends will be there in full force for an upcoming game. My son plays on the opponent's team. Looking forward to playing the gamecocks. I will certainly be pulling against the Gamecocks when they play.

The Columbia metro area has close to 800,000 people living in it. A reasonable percentage are gamecock fans on some level. Some are passionate, some are fans of the local team and some are casual fans who enjoy college sports and SC sports are a convenient resource. Within an hours drive of Columbia, there are easily over 1 million people. A day trip to a baseball game or a night out in Columbia and taking in a basketball game is an easy thing to do and enjoyable.

Putting 10,000 people in CLA or 5-6,000 in the ballpark for a game isn't hard to do.

I don't necessarily think they care about the lack of seats filled. We've already paid for the tickets. You basically have to purchase tickets to both in order to upgrade football tickets these days. Or just give a quick million to get seats not in the nosebleeds.

That is the only way "Do Nothing" Donati MIGHT get the message.
Let’s put ourselves in Donati‘s shoes . . .

1. Football. We all know Beamer was given another year so that firing him is off the table for now. And, $$$$ for new coaches and NIL seems to have been provided. How much? No idea but retaining offensive/defensive players PLUS spending to secure players via the portal has to be significant. All this spending has to come from donors, which leaves less for other sports.

2. MBB. The buyout is over $12 million. Almost as much as Muschamp‘s buyout, and we know how well that went. So, how would you propose we sugar coat it to donors? And then, we’d have to hire another coach at $4 million a year. Add to that, an increase in NIL to attract a coach ($$$$). So, let’s roughly say $20 million to jump start the MBB. Do you really think USC has that kind of money for a program that may generate $4-5 million annually?

3. Baseball. Here is where I’d watch Donati. He should make a move this year to fire or push Mainieri out. That would be the easiest coach to move. If the season plays out as it’s going and Donati retains Mainieri, then I’d agree Donati is a problem.

The buyout can be negotiated. It’s also in the contract that we can pay it out through 2030. So the buyout really isn’t an issue for basketball.

It's hard to do if the team is not good and plays a boring style of basketball (Pass the ball around and chunk up a desperation 3 at the end of the shot clock). I have found myself on my phone many times at the MBB games at CLA.

Would you negotiate a lower amount if fired???? I sure wouldn’t!

$12 million is still 12 million that is “thrown away” if Paris is fired now, regardless if it’s spread out over 4 years. Donors gave thinking/hoping they were paying for success. Now, they see money “thrown away.”

And, as I mentioned earlier, the university would still have to find donations to cover the expense of a new coach and NIL money.

That money comes from donations, and as @KingWard reminded us, “We need to be careful not to get into other people's business when it comes to discretionary spending” (donations). You can only go to the well so many times. . . .

It’s not as easy as simply wishing away a coach and starting over.

I would caution some to not jump to conclusions whether or not Donati cares about the basketball and baseball programs. He was not the one responsible for making either of these coaching hires, furthermore he is not the one who compounded the issue with the poor decisions on the large buyouts, his predecessor was. Let's give our new proper AD the time to correct the mistakes made by his predecessor before we toss him under the bus. I for one believe he is going to make a change with the basketball program as there is no rational reason to retain Paris based upon job performance here or at his previous job. Let's just wait and see.

I would if I needed my money faster than over a 4 year span.

It would be a push out. An outright firing would look bad for everybody.

2030 is only four years. What incentive would Paris have to negotiate?
Maybe USC would negotiate to pay out Paris' contract over 6 years instead of 4, or somesuch. The full amount, just spread out over a longer period of time.

Buyouts get negotiated all the time. Regardless paying 12 million over 4 years is no big deal.
If it's no big deal, I'll take half that amount over 4 years. You should be able to put that money together before lunch today.

It is very easy to spend other people's money.

I might go to Athens for the Sunday game vs the Dawgs. Money in their coffers.

It is being reported (not officially) that Lamont will likely be back next year but with more NIL money.

So…why not post what school you are supporting?

His son plays for Citadel. And from the looks of last night's game it appears no one is going to baseball. Think I'll switch from football to baseball in the next year or so. Could possibly be 4+ kids from Lexington on the team.

If you want change. You have to dry the money up. It’s the only thing they understand.
This.

It'd be more entertaining if they took all that NIL money, stacked it up on the painted Gamecock on Green St. in front of the Russell House, & set fire to it.

I don't think any USC football coach has ever thought there is a time when they've made enough money off of us.
I’m talking about Paris. And an honest critique of his performance should be enough to fire him or for him to leave, but when this amount of money is involved, there isn’t any honest critique happening obviously…

Yeah, my son played for the College of Charleston. The first time I pulled against a gamecock team😜! He has coached against them so there has been a couple more.
I just think if you don’t want to go to the games thinking of a positive result it will be counterproductive. Just me. 😀

My son plays about 10 minutes away from CoC. 😃
