if recruiting is our biggest hurdle then Masiello should be making his way to the top of our list at this point. All things being even, Masiello would outrecruit Hurley in his sleep.

Is the degree scandal that big of a negative for Hobbs? He has his degree now.

Still my choice, plus, he brings Jersey guy Matt Grady as an assistant coach. Unless Grady, who is his Associate Head Coach gets the bump to take over at Manhattan.

A verifiable history of making false representations about ones academic credentials on a resume' is a tough one for a public university to dismiss as a minor offense.

Yeah, but Eddie never represented that he had earned his degree when he hadn't as Masiello did.

What proof does one have that Masiello would kill it in recruiting? Has he been bringing in top 3 and 4 star plays to where he is now?

"Killed it under PITINO." That's like saying an Alabama assistant is a really good recruiter bc he got guys to come there and play for SabanZ

From the App story

Masiello is a dogged recruited whose squads have appeared in the Big Dance twice. He came up through the ranks as an assistant at Louisville, the same route Willard took. Hobbs has a good relationship with Louisville coach Rick Pitino.

6 scholarship players, lots of injuries and two guys that left the program for personal reasons. Still beat Monmouth in February and finished middle of the pack. Masiello is a great coach, team would have been bottom of the barrel this year if not for him.

Laugh that guys want Rutgers to hire a guy who repeatedly LIED about having a degree. Who cares that he's got his degree ... now. I'd like to think that we aspire to be more than UCF football and George O'Liar.

Um.. Wasn't Jordan also in this situation?

I admit the video makes him look intense... but what are his results? Does his team play smart out there? Give amazing effort? Never quit?

Of course we want it all.. but, for me, it all begins with whether you can teach the game and have those teaching visible on the court. You can adjust for talent disparity and wins and losses.. but seeing players who quit or play stupidly or lack conditioning and disciple.. that immediately comes back to coaching.

I believe it wasn't Eddie that said he had his degree, RU put it in his bio without knowing he didn't have one.

Masiello's side of this story is not far-fetched and makes it seem a lot less objectionable. He actually marched in graduation while a course short, which he took in summer school, but apparently didn't follow through to make sure he had everything done properly. I think he argues that he really thought he had completed, and called Kentucky to see if maybe there was a mistake on their part that he hadn't gotten the degree. When he found out he was short, he made up the course and graduated. NOW, that is his story on this. Don't know the truth, but if it is true, I think a second chance would be in order.

Sounds very reasonable, after all, we are talking about one course, not someone a semester or two short of graduating.

Don't know about Kentucky, but a lot of schools don't actually hand you the diploma as you go up to get what everybody thinks is a diploma. Oftentimes, it's just blank paper rolled up. Other times, if you aren't 100% done, you get the book-y sort of diploma looking thing like everybody else, and they have a diploma, but you have something that says, "Pending completion." There are tons of reasons why colleges hold back diplomas, but let kids march. You got a lot of grandparents who bought plane tix six months ago!

This occupied a lot of my time as an associate dean back in the day.
