There is absolutely no way she will leave SC

I would not expect her to leave South Carolina for another college job. I agree that I would not expect her to leave what she has built. I also would not be surprised if she decided she wanted another challenge at a higher level. With the new WNBA CBA I can see WNBA coaches salaries getting higher.

Why not? New challenge? Alma mater and she can recruit as easily to UVA as she can S Carolina.

Alma mater means something...that's four years. She has been coaching for 25 years in Pennsylvania and South Carolina. Last 18 in South Carolina. She is from Pennsylvania, her parents are from South Carolina.

I get the new challenge aspect. But it would almost be like starting over instead of a new challenge.

That's what the so-called experts said about Kim Mulkey.

She could go to Virginia tomorrow and get a top 5 portal class. She probably makes a Final 4 in 3-4 years. She’s THAT good.

I think the WNBA is still at least a half a decade, if not a full decade away from being able to match the top salaries of college coaches. There's just too many "good enough" WNBA coaches around that keep getting recycled to break the bank open for a college coach. Especially when the WNBA is more about the talent collected by the GM rather than the coach. Las Vegas didn't start winning titles because of how great Becky Hammon is, they won because they had a collection of several olympians on the roster. Same goes for NY and Minnesota and their coaches.

Dawn is the reason the talent is coming to South Carolina. Same with Mulkey at LSU and Geno at UConn. Then on top of that they can usually coach them well enough. Those coaches are worth the $s to their schools as they're filling the role of GM collecting talent and Head Coach.

I said higher on salary. Did not say anything about them being the same.

These are the comments from Staley which got me started on posting this thread.

Yeah, I just heard about that. I did reach out to our athletic director at Virginia. She just told me that they did part ways. I don't know why. She said, We'll talk soon. I think I reached out to Coach Mox as well just to check on her. Really haven't had time to have a conversation with her. I don't know what went wrong, but I think she had them on the right track.

I hope we get it together. We have a deeply rich tradition at UVA on this stage. We hope to get our team back there one day sooner than later."

Certainly still some affinity for UVA but referring to their AD as "our" and we have a deeply rich tradition...peaked my curiousity.
