Stafford is number 1 pick

[roengardner]

gets 41.7 million guaranteed. not bad

[thunderclap]

just my humble opinion.

[jackstefano]

Can make all the throws. Somehow can't put it all together. What's their O line and running game look like?

I like Stafford, I think he can be good, but he's in a rough situation. Detroit really should think about the future. Stafford isn't going to be worth 9 more wins, why not get the tackle from Baylor? You probably will still suck enough to be in range for Tebow/McCoy/Bradford next year.

Bust? You MUST be talking about Natalie. Nice. What was it Ben Wright said about racks being in the way???

[Seinfeld]

It is absurd that a player who has never played an NFL down and has a 50/50 chance to be a complete bust can get $41 mil in guaranteed money. It is almost a curse to get the #1 pick in the NFL draft these days.

I like most of the NFL's current collective bargaining agreement, and I think that a system with a salary cap along with non-guaranteed contracts is great for the fans. It creates a league where nearly any team can be competitive at some point. However, their rookie system may be the worst in pro sports. I know it's easier said than done, but they need to adopt something similar to the NBA's policy where rookies receive a set amount of money and a set number of years on their contract. Make the young guys prove themselves before they get the big $$$.

[hotdigitydog]

but nothing I would've considered to be spectacular.........I smell another Ryan Leaf or Joey Harrington, Part Deux...........

[MaleBovineK9]

but doesn't he have to go to the lions if they pick him? If so why give him 41 mil? why not just give him a million if he has to be there anyway? Or do the players have a choice to refuse a team?

Welcome to sports.

Sincerely,

Joey Harrington

[SLUdog]

because it's Detroit. He could be decent at a team with a good D and decent running game...like at UGa.

One of the reasons I don't really care for NFL or professional sports in general. Too much money, too many egos, no team loyalty, etc... kinda takes the fun out of it. I'll watch occasionally if there's nothing else on. College football>>>>>>>>NFL. So yeah, I am grossly unfamiliar with the process. Still didn't answer my question...why pay him so much?
