When the 1st team O is on the field, we have been snapping it with about 28 seconds on the at clock consistently. Is Calcagni the 2nd team QB in #18

Not sure if it is 1 O vs 2 D and vice versa but WRs are routinely open especially deep. Dane is going to need to throw the ball a little deeper and let his guys run under it instead of waiting for it

We are going to catch the D sleeping a lot this year. There usually isn't more than 2-3 seconds from the time the ref signals the ball ready to the time we snap it

Couple of takeaways:

-everybody has dropped a few lbs. Probably helping with quickness.
-Dane's spiral on long balls was on point today. Looked completely different to me. So much improvement finding the second option guys.
-Lucas picked up where he left off.
-kicking shaky for most of the day but then hit some long FGs. Lotta walkons. Parks had a nice punt early.
-Young players that stood out: Justin Hobbs, Ramadi Warren
-thought Calcagni was a solid option
-liked the tight end involvement. We have two MONSTER dudes that contributed..Tyler Wilson and ?? Gotta go back and look.

People I don't remember seeing out there: Will Barrow, Taverreon Dickerson, Jesse Brubaker?

Some tough running by the RB's too.
Langer seemed to have a good day.

More offensive highlights than defensive but the defense in general seemed to be in better position than they ever were last year.

It will be nice to see the stats from this if they were kept.

Offense is fast, real fast. We'll certainly score more per game than last year but with the offensive pace I don't know if an improved defense will allow less PPG than last year.

There were several times the offense got the snap off within 10 seconds from the end of the previous play.

Definitely entertaining and a great day for the game!

Great day for football & a good crowd ! Love our new offense. Our 1st team offense with Dane @ QB overwhelmed the 2nd team D. Our 2nd team offense, with Calcagni, still was competitive with first team D. So many good weapons on offense !

With almost ZERO legitimate press coverage this spring, I will give a couple story lines I'd heard nothing about so far :

1. Coach Monty moved players across the line of scrimmage to improve athleticism/fill holes. I like the moves & can see what they're trying to accomplish. Here's the moves I noticed :

Players moving from offense to defense :

-Kolton Shindelar from TE to DE...great athlete who could really help there....Also, Peyton Prince sure looks good @ TE
-Broderick Umblance from WR to CB...great athlete moved from position of over abundance to position of need

Players moved from defense to offense :

-Willie Wright from DT to OT....looked good at OT today
-Rob Riederer from LB to TE....reserve player either way

2. Coach B's last recruiting class was his best. Here are players from the 2014 class that sure look good early (I know it is very early ) in their TU careers :

- RB D'Angelo Brewer, WR Terrance Ivery, WR Justin Hobbs, WR Bishop Louie, RB Taverreon Dickerson, RB Ramadi Warren, TE Peyton Prince, DE Jeremy Smith & LB Petera Wilson. There are also several o-line & d-line guys that look good early & may be good contributors coming up.

BTW, I think Coach Monty will make much better use of that '14 class, especially all the WRs & RBS.

Finally, I'd say get your season tickets now ! There is going to be very entertaining football at Chapman Stadium this fall !

He sure did. Bla is right about underthrown deep balls. However, Evans seemed to be right on the money deep, later in the game. His swing passes were sharp-I don't remember a bad one. And that 20 yarder over the middle to a tight end had perfect touch. Never thought I'd say Dane had learned some touch. Another switch from O to D was Jeremy Brady from running back(who never got a snap last year) to safety. He could be a dandy at his normal position. No one else has said it but I will-Dane Evans better stay healthy. Maybe Will Hefley will blow everyone's socks off-he's certainly capable, or maybe Burgess. But 2nd team QB is currently worrisome. Joe C. made some nice throws but no comparison to Evans. Was pleasantly surprised with Jenks lb-Matt Linscott-seemed to be all over the field. It sure will be nice to have Tyler Wilson healthy for a change with Prince as backup-wow!

Anyway, you had to love where the Golden Hurcs are headed with the new coaching staff. Very exciting stuff! TU Football: 1st,last,always!

This was one of the most entertaining spring games in a long time. Very encouraging improvement. I may have missed a play or two due to the super fast pace, but I don't think there were any fumbles and no dropped passes that were catchable! The walk on kicker looked good, but the punting not so much.

After Dane and Calcagni huge drop off. Burgess never took a snap don't know if he was hurt or in the dog house.

Did Bingham Hightower, walk on QB form Cushing get to play? He is my doctor's son, great young man and pretty good QB

I thought Calcagni looked pretty good. Passes out at the right time, made good decisions with the ball and runs the read-option better than Dane does. Dane looked superb and in full control/clans of the O yesterday. Big time leadership coming out in him. Flanders looked great I thought. This pace will really help him.

Rubley looked like someone who didn't get many reps and didn't get the training under previous coaches. President looks like he is struggling with the pace and athleticism of D1 football.

The play that stood out to me was a TD to Garrett when the D made a good play before and the O just lined up and ran the next play and Garrett just went on a go route. The snap came 3 seconds after the ref signaled the ball ready. Defense wasn't. Pace will keep the D scrambling all season.

Best part was the play calling has purpose and flow. No wasted plays. And it almost seems the deep route is the emergency route at times when initial play isn't there

To those that made the spring game. How often did we run a pass play from a read option set?

Quite a few. Calcagni and President were better about pulling the ball down and running than Dane was. Dane almost always threw the ball it handed it off.

It took two years to get the full Gus package installed. You wonder if it will be the same with this group. Encouraging news about the O in the posts above. thanks.

Good question....You would think they will go for really good execution this year on fewer
plays (with two or three special plays for different teams), and next year expand the play
book....Hopefully, we will also have a few more offensive weapons, due to the 2016
recruiting class....

So far so good on the offensive side....We will, provided we get an adequate running
attack, be good offensively......As everyone says, the defense will be the key to our W-L
record....

Hightower and Jabe Burgess did not play, but participate team drills before the game, taking a few snaps.

I saw the makings of a 2007/2008/2010 type season. Offense is going to be fast paced and score some points but we are going to have to score a lot of points to win. I think our defense will give up a lot of yards and have to rely on the offense scoring most of the time they have possession. The weakest link, in my opinion, is special teams and it will cost us a game maybe 2. With continued improvement I don't see why there shouldn't be 6-7 wins on the year. Should at least be entertaining to watch...
