Storming the field is one thing, planting the flag on your opponents field, against your rival, for the conference championship? Not a good idea.

I didn't see anything wrong with that. It's a high school football rivalry, with kids. Remember when one school would steal another school's mascot? Or when the cheerleaders used to cheer "You Suck". It's the same thing. Rivals being rivals. Nowadays, everybody's feelings get hurt. Don't be disrespectful. Bull doody. Conley's coach was soooo mad because SCentral planted a flag on Conley's field. Was that really something to get mad about? Of course not. In every aspect of life, adults really have a problem with kids doing things that they themselves did as kids. It's like we forgot what it was like. Of course, they could have just beaten SCentral.....

Perhaps he was soooooo mad that he just lost a Conference Title against a big-time rival?

No the easy fix is you never plant your flag in the center of the opposing team. Regardless of rivalry or scores in the past.

Why not? Disrespect? Sportsmanship? Cause it's rude? I legitimately want to know why this would be justification to lose your top.

If both teams are out that makes things interesting in 3A since Conley was 3AA...means someone is moving up

Well if there was time left in the game, I take back everything I said.

Players can be ejected and teams banned regardless of whether the altercation happened during regulation or not

I dont understand the hysteria. I had zero problem with the flag planting. More of an issue with Conley's HC not being able to contain or control his players. Stop crying because of a flag plant and control you players, teach them its not fair to sucker punch someone, esp with you're in protective gear. I see assault charges coming

I think the loss of control came when the student in the redshirt busted past midfield jumping in their face and through the Conley players. The Conley HC was a jerk after everything happened but he was out in front at midfield before the incident started. COnley players were walking toward midfield. Without the fan interference I do not think there are any issues.

Not right to hit someone but I saw that as a heat of the moment situation and the player was baited and taunted by somone that should not have been on the field. I think the player should be suspended for the remainder of the season. The student should not be allowed to attend athletic events for the remainder of the school year. If I am the parent of the student I am not hiring legal counsel but telling my kid he is lucky he was on that field and not in a parking lot.

Just wondering how this incident is ok and 4 teams from Charlotte are banned from post season play for something similar

I feel bad for the students at Hunt and Fike. Like it was said, they weren't banned. Wilson County Schools self imposed. But in a statement, they acknowledged the students that didn't fight, but said something about they expect the team to be a team. Thats not an exact quote, but that's what he was saying. It's one thing if the nchsaa banned them, because all they care about is sports. But it seems to me that the county is basically teaching the kids that we are responsible for the actions of others, and even if you do right, you still go down with the ship. They said nothing about not having enough remaining players. They could have still fielded a team. But because of a few, everybody goes down. That's not right. If one of their coworkers was caught stealing, would they be OK with the entire shift getting fired? Of course not. Those kids got shattered by their own county.

Correct. Football season is over for both teams. Both teams will also be fined up to $1,000. NCHSAA didn't make the decision, Wilson County Schools self imposed the ban themselves.
Both teams seasons were effectively over anyway. You aren't going to beat Havelock and neither team was getting out of the first round anyway. WCS did the right thing, but given what they had left, it really wasn't a hard decision to make.

I am not sure the Rocky River v Indy deserved to be removed from playoffs.

Watch the film of the East Meck v Hickory Ridge incident. No question that deserved major suspensions. Total loss of control.

First round exit or not, they still took away an experience from those kids that didnt deserve it. The kids of the last team to get in, with no chance of winning, still savor the experience of being in the playoffs. I agree that as far as contending for a deep run that it was over. But to take something that would be remembered for the rest of their lives away from the deserving students seemed like an unfair move by their own system. The whole incident shouldn't even have happened though. It's a shame all the way around.

Based on the number of players that were involved in the incident they would have been removed from the playoffs. Not sure if enough players would have been suspended for them to forfeit regular season games if any were remaining.
