Here are some scrimmages I have found for the preseason. Please add to the list as others get scheduled.
1. 3/2 Galax at Pulaski, Christiansburg at Martinsville, Abingdon at John S. Battle
2. 3/6 Radford at Blacksburg
3. 3/9 Giles at Richlands and Liberty at Martinsville
4. 3/7 Glenvar at Alleghany
5. 3/4 Floyd and Dan River @ Bassett Jamboree (something more schools should do)


That's all I have for now, but there are some great preseason matchups in there. 3/2 is going to be a good day for soccer!

Giles at Richlands have been postponed from Wednesday. Not sure of new date and time yet.

Good scrimmages indeed. You mention Floyd. I saw them some last year with a new coach and some promise but didn't seem like they could connect. Any idea what they have this year?

I've heard they are looking to probably take the four spot in the conference. Giles and Martinsville will be in a dog fight for 1. James River is solid enough to beat either of those once though. I have them at a 3 for now. Then I see Floyd taking Radford and Glenvar. Radford will be better soon, but it isn't there yet.

I have heard Giles dominated at Richlands, but I do not have a score. Galax at Pulaski is rescheduled for next week. Season is coming on quickly.

Also, Christiansburg beat Martinsville last night 5-1. Not sure what implications this can have (no more than any other scrimmage most likely), but Galax at Cburg will be more telling next week with something to compare it with.

I saw that JR only has three seniors on the roster? Are all three of these starters of will they be playing 9-10 very young guys? Either way there may be a real opportunity for them down the road.

All 3 sr's will likely start. one of them was dismissed early last year for some bad decision making, 3 jr's who 2 of which started as freshman and the other got moved into the goal after the 1 and 2 goalies were dismissed from the team last year. The remaining starters will likely be juniors and sophomores with the most experience and skills. I don't see any freshman starting but I have not seen them all yet as the Flu and injuries kept some from the scrimmage last week. I expect this group will give opponents all they can handle for the next couple years. What some lack in size or speed they more than make up in IQ and determination. If you can't outrun them, then you gotta out smart them.

George Mason lost to (5A) JEB Stuart last night 2-0. Now, don't go getting to excited and thinking that someone else can be the favorite. It just isn't so. A preseason loss to a school three classifications above you, doesn't really indicate a down year. I would still be very shocked if Mason wasn't holding the trophy in Radford come June.

Floyd played in the Bengal Bash on 3/4 against some great schools. Looking to hear how they faired? Hoping they have a really good season.

Not sure how they faired there. I saw them play Auburn tonight and showed well and won 3-1. They have some great talent. Had one of their players start on the defensive line and played up when needed. He had two of their goals. Great ball movement among the field. Good coaching from the buffs as well. This was Auburn's first scrimmage so could be a learning time for them.

Thanks. Not 2A but Galax and Christiansburg played to a 0-0 draw last night. Not a good sign for Martinsville, who was dominated by Christiansburg earlier on.
