Yes the irony...over and over the NCAA tried to walk a way from Ol' Roy and UNC until it took congress getting involved, lawsuits, whistle blowers over and over to finally take another look down in Chapel Hill...and not about a few players like at SMU... UNC was who knows how many players over years and years.. Yet here come the NCAA lawmen right on it at SMU...ever notice that UNC shill ESPN, run by the UNC alum John Skipper, is still putting out fluff pieces about "Mr. Ah shucks, I don't know a thing" Roy while they do everything they can to shield UNC, one of their prized possessions of their big money ACC from bad pub.....not saying Larry is a saint...but gotta love it..... the NCAA's .. OL' boys network out in full force......as they pick and chose who gets what attention...

What did Tarkanian used to say regarding them playing favorites: "The NCAA is so mad at Kentucky, it's going to give Cleveland State two more years' probation."

Brilliant quote by Tark........

SMU should get at least a one year ban from the tourney and several scholarships taken away for a few years along with a few games for Larry Brown to not be around.

For some reason I think NOTHING happens.

While I do not condone the misconduct that ALLEGEDLY happened, I might remind all of you guys that probation and sanctions against SMU hurts the AAC and UConn. SMU at one time had a top ranked football program but sanctions killed that program as well. I am not sure if it's all a coincidence or whether SMU has some sneaky **** that is part of their institutional bureaucracy, I will leave it for the people in Texas to analyze that. All I know is they had a very good basketball team last year and will be good this year, but if they get hit with probation and suck in the future, it is not going to help the conference or UConn.

One other thing, I know Larry Brown has a history of NCAA trouble with all the teams he has coached, but he is a great coach. His 1980 UCLA team had no business getting to the NCAA finals, his 1988 Kansas team had no business winning the title, and he also won an NBA title in Detroit and took Philly to the finals when all they really had was Allen Iverson. I honestly do not believe the team he inherited was all that good, and he has had them playing extremely well.

None of this is good for the AAC!! If they are cheaters they have to be punished but who will step up if that happens? East Carolina? Tulane?

So it looks like the delay is based on the time the NCAA gave them to respond which WAS soon but in a bizarre situation now gets an extension because they found MORE violations in different sports. Did I read that right, that the deadline is now pushed out ?

It's little confusing given the link...so this is about more dirt going on with UNC ? It seems like it'll never end down in Chapel Hill...

KSTW- The article was about UNC not SMU.

Blades- Yes UNC is now self reporting more issues with Mens Soccer and another sport as well that came about while looking into the reported NCAA violations.......

My guess is they are trying to create enough of a smoke screen and penalties with other sports, so that they can lessen the damage to the real money makers...football and men's hoops

Yep I just read the CBS article....I knew those snakes at UNC had to be doing this to somehow benefit FB and MBB .....this it what CBS said:

" But the timing basically ensures UNC won't be punished before National Signing Day for football or the 2016 NCAA Tournament, meaning Roy Williams' Tar Heels, a possible preseason No. 1, now run almost no risk of being banned from this upcoming season's postseason. In other words, in a twisted way, these newly discovered potential violations could prove helpful to the sports that matter most in Chapel Hill."

The delay may help the upcoming season, but it probably hurts recruiting. These lingering problems have to scare some recruits away.

The delay can only mean that the NCAA wants more time to assess its findings in light of the investigations into the new violations!

Of course it does, the NCAA's only had about 4 years while they tried to walk away and sweep it under the carpet over and over. As Bubba Cunningham, the UNC athletic director, said in a statement the university released early Friday afternoon “I know today’s announcement will cause some to ask when all of this will end,” . Anyone with half a brain knows the answer...after the basketball season, when it doesn't hurt their top ranked team .... these guys play dumb like a fox while the NCAA let's them.... same as did they up in Cuse when the NCAA allowed them to ban themselves in a year that they weren't going to make the tourney anyway...... Ah yes the right of P-5 privilege...LOL !

Interesting take on UNC from a former player : " I cannot say I am proud to be represented by an administration that will throw a legendary coach to the wolves to protect men’s athletic teams."

UNC sacrificing Hatchell to protect men's teams in scandal
* Roy Williams and his program were in scandal report, and he got a contract extension.
* The football program was in the report, and its coaches are telling recruits there will be no repercussions from NCAA investigation.
