Crest & East Burke: I never took Crest so called falling off seriously, and thought they were righting the ship, becoming both a serious contender and threat again. I was still very concerned about them as a Shelby fan. They have athletes galore on that team. Now, we see they're simply not very good, an average team. Shocking to say the least. They rebound this week. Crust 31 Cavs 0

RS @ KM: A heck of a matchup, sleep on RS if you want, they're not to be taken lightly, the Hilltoppers can beat the Mountaineers, but I will go with the home team, narrowly. KM 24 RS 17

Chase: Bye

Draughn @ East Rutherford: 21-7 Cavs

Shelby @ Burns: Next on the menu, dog meat. I was concerned about the Devine factor. He knows Shelby well in every aspect, but you still have to go out there and execute. Burns has athletes and a good pass rush, too. The Shelby D is special, and they will stifle the Burns offense. The Shelby offense is good and will test Burns' secondary. Lions 34- Bulldogs 14

Has nothing to do w/ your close prediction, just a general question, Realville native. How do you think our offense has performed since losing Brooks? Don't get me wrong, we're a much better team w/ him, no doubt, but generally speaking, I've seen some improvement, less penalties, less sloppy play. I'd like to see Gullatte get more opportunities running the ball, I think that he can be that home run threat that we have lacked at the position since Brooks' dismissal. Like the other Realville resident stated, I'd like to see how he does running inside, though. He's a tough kid, though. I think he could get it done. The matchup w/ Burns will be a good indicator of how much our offense has progressed. They have a stout D and that Devine intangible like 65 Lion stated.

The first Realville member you asked is somewhat of a sandbagger, but I will give you my opinion for what its worth and that's not much.

The offense since Brooks has been very good, but to be honest about Brooks, there were a lot of runs he made that were just plain out athleticism, and little blocking. Our line seems to be doing a great job of protecting in the passing game but I think its going to have to step up a notch in the run game since Brooks is gone. Some of that has been because of injuries and inconsistent snaps.

#12 has done a good job at QB, and I wouldn't just say that. He has 1 D1 receiver and some complimentary receivers, who if you could mix and match their capabilities would give us two great receivers. #12 has done a better job of spreading the ball around and that has opened up our offense a little more. I would like to see #12 take off a little more, even if he runs out of bounds, to draw in the secondary. Probably the best thing about #12 is his IQ on field. This year the offense gets lined up quickly and he does a good job of making sure everyone is set before snapping the ball.

In saying that, I will be anxious to see how we move the ball against Burns. They will have the best defense we have seen with the exception of South Point, and we only scored 24 on them.

Couldn't agree more, HitmanT. The D was great out the gate, the offense was a work in progress, had/has some kinks to work out to make another run at 4 in a row. It's crunch time now.

I hope Burns can pull it out vs Shelby but it's hard to go from the past two years to beating a team like Shelby. Devine has done an amazing job but beating Shelby will be a very tall order for the Dogs.

LA, my take is, We all know defense been great all year.
Losing DaDa was big hit, but the team has rallied around it,
Ive seen 12 get better and better every week, alot of us get spoiled and expect someone to step right in and be great.
But he has grown up fast. As hitman said he has been spreading the field.
O-line has done well considering injurys,
But we have Archie back this week and few others to be back normal.
Love the add ons in running game which we will see more of fri.nite.
Main thing is we dont realize we got ton of stars on sidelines, so next man up. Lets roll!

Yes Hitman as usual had a good analysis. With all we lost on offense from last year we have done a extremely good job.Now with the loss of 14 we must get some speed at the running back position.Hopefully Gullete works out and is able to help some.As for the defense we have played incredible and we play so many underclassmen. My one worry there is we have not played a really good offense this year so when we do and give up some points hope they handle it well. The next 4 weeks will tell a lot.

Like HitmanT, your analysis is spot on, too. To piggyback of what you stated, my brother and I were talking about the defense recently, discussing how pretty much every team has pretty much just tried to run straight at us, and that simply is not going to work, regardless of the competition in whatever classification, in my opinion, but how will the D react to more balanced offenses, like Lincolnton for example, they have a great balanced attack.

I normally don't say such but me and someone ( getting old and don't remember who) were talking the other day and if a team in 2a beats Shelby this year they are going to be an absolutely outstanding all around "special type" ball team... And if it happens ,and it may I'll take my hat off and say what a team ! That's just how good our defense has been so far ...I may be dead wrong but this team defensively has been special so far ...it's going to take an outstanding offense to put up a bunch of points on them all the while slowing our offense down enough to win... Like I said it may happen but boy it's going to take a very very good team to do it
I'll be interested to see how well they react to a well balance offense that can run or throw it ....

I have a feeling we will get a huge test Friday night and those Dogs will come out slap fired up for Shelby they can run and throw it so it'll be a good test to see just how good the defense is !

Malik has been getting better and better lots of poise back there and starting to spread it around ! He has good leadership qualities and good vision .. Want to see Gullatte as well in the backfield and see what he can do ! That'll free up truck to move around and be the playmaker he is from different angles , positions etc .... Looking forward to how the rest of the season pans out

You have no worries with that defense. Never going down field on Shelby rush pressure. Did not handle SP defense at all. Only scored 17 points, two scores came on broken tackles for 60 and 80 yard runs. Shelby has a special defense nobody in the state would handle well regardless of the attack. Ware does his homework and prepares well.

The teams have to play the game and the rest will take care of itself. We can throw out all the BS about how both teams look because both have advantages that ultimately do not matter. Burns has a good defense and Shelby has not see one as good yet. Burns has a good offense but has not seen a defense like Shelby. Burns defense has not seen an Offense like Shelby and vice versa. Burns head coach knows that team better than anyone but that will not win the game. Line them up and play the game. I expect a HUGE crowd for my autographs and then who is not in line will see the game. Come early, my hand cramps after 1000.

Oh and.....ER 20-7..I don't know how many ER players will be out this week due to injury, but should have enough speed to get past Draughn.

This is a correct assessment. Due to the rush of the front 7-8, I don't feel like anyone will have enough time to form any type of passing game on us. Key, Jolly, Ross as well as Smith will be set in the defensive backfield. They are all ball hawks so a QB under duress that just throws it up will be looking at an INT and possibly a pick 6. If you can't score on us, you can't win and our first team defense is averaging about 4 pts a game and has scored several tds themselves. A couple games we could have won without our offense ever taking the field. Yes the competition has been somewhat lacking but the numbers they are putting up against varsity high school football teams is still impressive. 2 total yards of offense over 6 quarters is amazing (EB (4) and ER (2)). Imagine if the starting D played the entire game...you'd be looking at NEGATIVE yardage for the offense over two ball games.

Offense has improved over the first part of the season. #14 was a big loss. He was so much fun to watch. Truck is filling in nicely and Gullatte is fast. #12 is molding into a fine QB. One thing he could improve upon is if he is scrambling, rather than run out of bounds for a loss of yardage, throw it at the feet of a covered receiver as he is going out of bounds that way it doesn't go against his rushing stats and move the ball back. That will come with time as he matures even more. Coach (or LA...lol) may have told him not to risk that because it could turn into a pick. Another thing we need to do is get the ball in Borders hands as much as possible. He is already playing like a collegiate receiver. Jet sweeps, slants, screens....just get the ball in his hands and he's liable to score on any play. I am glad we are getting healthy and it will be nice to have our O-line back in one piece.

Our biggest issue right now is our kicking game and it is improving leaps and bounds. We have to capitalize on every PAT. No excuse for a missed PAT. From the LS to the holder to the kicker, we have to turn that into a well oiled machine. Punting is a little weary too....we haven't had to punt much but when we do it has to work. Kickoffs drive me bonkers....kick the ball down the field. We lost to Crest last year because of the little sky kicks. We gave them the ball around the 40 on almost every possession. Kick the hell out of the ball and if they return it then oh well but don't give the other team the ball at the 40.

Looking forward to Friday...I believe we are going to open even more eyes.

We may be the best you've played this year, but we're still long shots to win this game. And probably long shots to compete for all 4 quarters. But like Rev has said numerous times, I'm glad we're playing meaningful game again.

I apologize for that. I was told that by a Lawndale resident, Burns ex player that was in my home talking out of head. He mentioned something about Burns running that ball down our throat. I laughed.

no he meant running something else down your throat...you got so excited you completely lost your mind, its understandable

If thats the best you have then you are dismissed, next.....
Dismissed! You probably had your hands on your hips and your lips poked out when you typed that. Put some respect in our name! Don't get mad at me because your fan base is clueless. I bet Burns will trot out that 94 championship team before the game. I heard Burns does it every year. I have respect for Burns. They will play off emotion for the first five minutes and then Shelby will take over.
