The University of Arizona named former player Adia Barnes the new Head Coach. Barnes was most recently an assistant at Washington for 5 years, and had a playing career in the "W" and overseas, where she met her husband.
She got the job over Julie Hairgrove, another alum who has been an Assistant with the Phoenix Mercury for 10 years and is Lute Olsen's granddaughter. Also over Todd Holthaus, a successful coach at the local community college who was an assistant at Arizona about 10 years ago.
I'm very pleased. Liked Niya Butts, who was head coach since before we arrived our there, but had finally concluded she just couldn't do it.
