Props to Simpson for manning up and taking questions. His effort was excellent. At some point he needs to show the ability to put the ball in the basket though. Being a good kid who says the right things and brings effort helps but it isn't everything. He needs to be more efficient of a scorer period. This is the B1G. You need to produce

Simpson's a good kid and very athletic.

His basketball and shooting skills are not B10 level though. Coaches should very much work with him on fundamentals AND shooting. Otherwise career will go by quickly in a less than fully formed status. This is on the coaches as much as him. But lets stop the Geo comparisons-unfair to kid and just absurd.

I remember a long long time ago I would watch as every five days Edwin Jackson would talk to reporters after the game and say how he needed to do better, how he wasn't happy with his performance, etc... and I would just think "that's all well and good and I like you as a person but your ERA is over 5.00 and I'd like to win some baseball games."

Say what you want about his play, but he is taking charge.

Brandin Knight on Derek Simpson: “Derek is going to get the big pat on the back, the one thing I think Derek would say is all of those guys – whether it was Cliff (Omoruyi) freeing him up or Mawot (Mag) cutting, I know there are some things that you can’t see sometimes because they don’t show up as points or assists, but we did a good job of clearing out some of those areas to give Derek lanes to get downhill and make the plays that he did. Cliff set great screens and rolled hard and he created conflict, and I think that’s how Derek got some easy baskets."
