My first OU game in 1958 (vs Texas), had me and my family seated in front of a Horn fan wearing what I recall as a UT band costume, with wavy blond Mathew McCauhaughey-Jerry Lee Lewis hair and a cowbell that seemed to have weighed over ten pounds....and he rang the damn thing often a foot or so from our ears.
At one point, my dad (a native Oklahoman), turned and told him to stop ringing the cowbell, which this byproduct of an incestuous union ignored. Finally, my dad told him what to do with the bell and he stopped.
OU lost that day with Royal using the new 2-point conversion, 15-14, and we were "serenaded" by chants of "poooooooooor Sooooooooners" as we left the Cotton Bowl. As an 11 year old kid in 1958, this display of UT arrogance and taunting started my dislike of Texas at an early age.....and for the next 13 years, as OU went 1-12 against Texas and its Oklahoma coach..... that sentiment deepened, even while living in New Jersey from 1960-69. Then, upon returning to Houston in August of 1969, I arrived in time to see Texas win the 1969 National Championship and had to listen to Texas fans having multiple o's and ramping up their taunts.
In summary, under no conditions will I ever pull for Texas winning any game at any time for any reason against any opponent.
