Should the killbot footage be released?

You don't have to be a Rocket Sturgeon to know the bot had a live feed unless it was a touchtone negotiator.

Press one to continue negotiations
Press two to commit suicide by robot
Presna tres para espanol

IMO, the final scene is better left to the imagination.

Rocket Sturgeon? Are you imitating Ricky from the Trailer Park Boys?

It was only a live feed to the "control center". I'm sure it was recorded and a FOIA could get the footage.

Apparently it wasn't a quick kill since the guy scribbled initials in his own blood (or was he shot before the robot used the C4?).

Shot before.

I'm not sure what you would see anyway. I believe they blew a hole in the wall that he was hiding behind. You'd probably see a wall, then a ton of dust in the air.

Hadn't heard about the bot being on the other side of a wall. I did hear someone with the Dallas Police say the bot was being used to negotiate. I'm fairly sure FCC prohibitions would determine what could be publicly aired. I wouldn't particularly want to see anything gory or heart wrenching, but curiosity gets the best of me.

Separately, I've seen questions starting to arise about the State use of such a device. It will likely occur again and use will probably be case by case, but it opens the door to a wider conversation, which is good, imo. I'm glad to live in a country where this subject can be openly discussed.

I agree that it's good that we can have this discussion. I've heard that some folks were concerned that the guy was deprived of his right to due process. I can see that argument if the police rolled the bot in there and blew him up immediately. They had been negotiating with him for 2 hours. They offered him a last shot to surrender after the 2 hours, warning him that they were preparing to take him out. I fail to see how, in this particular case, it matters whether they take him out with the bot or they send in 4 guys to shoot him. The result is the same, and the police weren't put at more risk.

I wouldn't immediately but rather months down the road if it has to be released.

Besides something like this could influence behavior if Public Enemy, Louis Farrakhan, or possibly Barry Manilow can. The Copacabana incites a lot of club crime.

I don't know what that means, so, no.

I'm not in this particular case. I can see a situation where a suspect is fleeing on foot, loses the police, at a later time the robot encounters someone with a similar description but ends up being mistaken identity.

And don't get me wrong, I'm all for using technology to our benefit to the greatest extent possible.
