Of 4 be hurting financially if they are making 90,000 a year ? Thoughts

Depends on where they live. In San Fran, you can't live a decent life on $90K. That is why you'll see Silicon Valley increase their expansion into other areas of the country that are very livable places (e.g. Austin Texas, the NC Triangle, etc.). They are starting to run into trouble with their inability to pay enough for these kids to lead a decent life. Same is true in NYC.

But they can live very well in WV and lots of fly over country.

They will live much, much better lives once Trump's tax plans are enacted.

One can't possibly answer this question accurately based on the information provided only. I will say, in most places, you should be able to live comfortably on $90k assuming you make choices consistent with a $90k family budget, which includes types of cars, house location/size, personal items, food, entertainment, and a host of other things.

Have we seen enough detail of the tax plan to know of your statement about "live much better" is accurate?

Where I live, $90k per year is pretty solid even for a family of 4. If I were moving north to Denver, it would be much more difficult. Denver is become LA East. My sister lives in North NJ. I suspect $90k per year would leave you pretty things there.

Freely admit, the lifestyle I live, it would be a tough adjustment, but it can be done. My very best friends, both with Master's degrees are a family of 4 living in Southern WV and they make it fine on about $70k.

The tax plan in online. Libs will fight it as they always do, but the Senate has so many up for reelection in red states that Trump dominated, I'm not sure how hard they fight this.

The GOP could also put this in a reconciliation bill (as the Dems did with Obamacare) requiring only 51 votes.

I think the issue really depends on schools and housing costs. For example, a family of 4 making 90k in Henrico County VA (Richmond VA) that wants to send their kids to more highly rated schools will likely live in the western part of the county. Housing prices are significantly higher there than in the northern and eastern parts of the county. Therefore, the family could be stretched financially due to the fact that they would want to live in a part of the county where the houses will cost 300,000 plus.

What I found (likely no different from others) was that the more we made, the more we spent. Probably didn't fully realize the stupidity of our ways until we turned 50

Goochland, western Hanover, and even New Kent (although I hear the schools aren't so good there). I lived in far western Chesterfield for 14 years. Now I am in the northside of the city.....the only good think is that my Zillow estimate on the house is going up quickly!

Most should. Location makes a huge difference.

it's up to you to live within your means. 90,000 is a good wage wherever you live. If you are trying to own a nice house, expensive car, out to expensive dinners every week, then it's the person's fault for not being able to make it on 90,000.

Just go to realtor.com and compare what you can get for $250,000 in Charleston verse San Jose.

That's not my point. If you are making 50,000, you shouldn't try living like you are making 100,000. If you are making 90,000, you shouldn't try living like you are making 200,000. Correct? That's the problem with healthcare law as written, why should you and I subsidize people making that much?

Everyone should budget and live within their budgets. A family four will find it much more difficult to live on $90,000 in Glendale, CA, than Glenville, WV.

A very wise and successful man told me the rule he lived by. Put 10% into a savings; pay yourself 10% to spend as you want. This is important to feel the rewards for your efforts. The balance should go to family living expense. I practiced that for about 30 years, and sent kids to college. Definitely enjoyed my work for which the 10% personal allowed me to eat, drink attend games and play poker with the guys. 10% for investment and future needs was rather easy to accumulate enough to to do what I wanted whenever I wanted.

It beat the hell out of credit cards and spending prior to earning. Credit cards is the thing you must guard against. I would do without before charging to be paid over time.

And I definitely agree with a prior post. The more you have the more you spend. Just remember the 10-10-80, and you can enjoy your life without pressure to keep up with others.

I was taught and teach 10-20-70: 10-tithe, 20-save, 70-live.

People who make their long term investments/savings their first "bill" tend to be successful at managing their finances. If you take that step, the rest is relatively easy and you can spend the balance on whatever you like.

I ran some numbers from one of the Trump online sites and the plan shows a tax savings of about about $110/month for a family of four in this salary range.

I like the 10 10 80 rule ..since my hourly pay changes from state to state ( not to drastically) my rules for me has always been set my outcome to 32hrs a week at my lowest pay scale & 8 hrs for me ...

I have no problem with that. I just think the family budget should teach the value of tithing. If you prefer tithing as a line item for you individually vs having it as a family thing.
