So basically 6-20 on non-"at the rim" twos. 30 percent -- Not good.

Better "at the rim" in this game, though, at 13-18.

Serious question. Do we think Pike is someone who actually looks at these types of stats? I mean, he HAS to know that mid-range twos -- especially the ones outside the paint -- are just terribly inefficient shots unless you're hitting 50% of them (which we never seem to do).

But 53% eFG% is not bad. Though it was just 1 game vs American. Overall in 4 games, RU's eFG% so far this year is 51.5%, about what it was last season in out of conference, maybe a touch better.

Last season, RU's team eFG% was 50.6%, 49.9% in the Big Ten conference (so maybe 51% out of conference). That was with Harper and Bailey, 2 great offensive players.

In 2023-24, RU's eFG% was 43.5% overall, 42.8% in the Big Ten conference games .. truly awful.

Seems like we have 3 players that should make a lot of their midrange 12-15 feet shots. Buchanan , Davis and Francis can get to 50% . We want the Euros shooting threes or drives to the basket and Dylan shooting an occasional 3 or driving to the hole for a flush or foul. I have no problem with the 3 point attempts being much less than our opponents but we need to shut down the ppponebt’s 3 point barrage quicker and Pike has to adjust quicker and not wait until halftime.

1) Of course Pikes looks at these stats. 2) they took 9 of 38 shots from the mid-range. That was the lowest shot count area on the court. 3) Plus, not every mid range shot is a bad one and you are looking at one game. Looking at the stats and pretending you’re and expert doesn’t really work unless you stayed at a Holiday Inn.

Meh - I’m not really seeing that or didn’t see that vs American. Look at where the Xs and Os are actually marked. We hoisted 3 long midrange shots outside the paint with the shot clock expiring (2 of them airballs Hail Mary style). Also remember that sometimes when you get a longer paint offensive board kids instinctively take that shot. There were a few of those too. We didn’t take more than 2-3 deliberate mid range shots in the halfcourt sets - a couple I think early in the game also pretty deep in the shot clock.

And sometimes the shots are better shots when to invite your teammates have inside position for the put backs.

These states are an obstacle and a starting point but not defining
