If you told me Mathis, Gene and Carter would shoot a combined 7-30 and we would still beat PSU on the road I would have found that hard to believe.

They took exactly half of our 60 shots, while Geo took exactly one-quarter of our shots and also made 7 (of 15) and the rest of the team took exactly one-quarter of our shots and also made 7 of 15.

I’m not sure what any of this means (probably nothing) but I’ll take the win any way we can get it.

Our star was a solid 7-15, rest of team 14-45. That was compensated for by a good night at the line, and we shot better from three than we did from two.

3pt 7-15
FT 15-21

The oddity was not the overall shooting percentage. It was that we shot above average from three and the line. Eugene hitting his FT was key.

Poor shooting by both teams made the game a nail biter.Penn State stinks which neutralized the home court advantage.Winning ugly is preferable to losing .

Mathis, Kiss, McConnell, and Harper combined to shoot 5-9 on three-pointers. Getting contributions from everybody is so important.

what it tells you is that if you shoot threes well, make your free throws and play good defense you can win.

I can’t believe we went 7-15 from 3, it didn’t feel like it. But wow. I’ll take that any game !

So true. And, exactly why it is so hard to a) predict how this team will play each night and b) why it is impossible to say what is the best "rotation" or starting five. We never know who's shows up with their game each night. Pike has a good sense of these guys but it takes a few minutes each game to figure it out. But they are all improving so hopefully they will get more consistent.

The three guys we expect to score inside the most went 7-30 and we still won. This was a day when our normal weaknesses became strengths, FTs and treys.
