“And then I think, look at this, I got
Nebraska,” Herbstreit continued. “Remember they were 3–9 last year, all nine losses within one possession.
They found ways to lose games. I think Scott Frost can have a great year with Casey Thompson at quarterback.”
If Nebraska is going to have a breakout year, they will have to address most or all of the issues everyone has talked about: OL, special teams, turnovers, more disruptive defense come to mind.
In addition, Thompson will hopefully provide a legitimate downfield threat throwing the ball.
I think when facing AM, teams would play the run until obvious passing downs, and even then play the QB draw. He would burn them once and a while, but not often enough.
I found some absurd stat that if you held NU to under 300 yards rushing and scored over 21 points, you had a 90+% chance of winning with AM at QB.
AM/Frost were never going to win a shootout throwing the ball.
Maybe that's an indictment on the receivers, but the film indicates otherwise.
If CT provides an over the top threat, safties have to back off and you can establish a running game.
I think with Herby you have to read between the lines; he doesn't call out players, but I think he's insinuating the above from his comments. Here's hoping....
