Shaka hooked
Smart informed his players at VCU of his decision at a team meeting held late Thursday... Will he be taking his recruits with him ? Will VCU give them their release ?

Smart was smart- he realized he had maxed out at VCU and that he wasn't going to pull in big time recruits playing in the A-10. He did okay recruiting given what he had to work with, but over time he probably got frustrated. It's going to be hard for any coach to refuse Texas because there is a ton of money to be made there, not just in salary, but in off the court benefits and endorsements. If Smart does well in Texas, and I think he will, his personal cash register is going to sing like the Four Tops.

Another thing I heard is that Austin, Texas is one of the best places to live in this country.

Very true, the more this has played out in the last year....staying at VCU was nice but like Buzz Williams to
Va Tech....Shaka had to see the hand writing on the wall with the rule changes /separation of the P-5 and the
many forms it could take... And if your gonna go to a P-5, you might as well go to the one that has one of the
largest AD budgets in America...at $160 mil + and counting.... then you don't follow the rules you dictate the rules...
or else your school can take it's toys and go elsewhere... like Texas almost did to the PAC a few years ago !

Interesting indeed. Prolly more for our match ups against them the next few years.

They also didn't bring him there to teach how to get off one's shot without it being resoundingly blocked.

RJ seems like the type of player who would make for a good assistant. He always put in the time and prepared well for the opponents. Ollie probably gave him high praise also when asked about RJ.

Seems to be the first seed of the Ollie coaching tree. Nothing wrong with getting as many UConn guys as possible in the basketball circles.
