1. Knocked off the TWO-TIME defending national champion.

2. Defeated an opponent that was UNDEFEATED!

3. Defeated an opponent who was - some say - the favorite for the Hodge Award for the top wrestler of the year.

4. First UNDEFEATED TRUE FRESHMAN NATIONAL CHAMPION since 1943! (thanks, giddy up)

5. Became the first TRUE FRESHMAN to become a national champion since former OSU Cowboy AJ Ferrari.

6. Did not give up A SINGLE TAKEDOWN all year long!

CONGRATS SERGIO!! COWBOY NATION IS PROUD OF YOU!!!

Sergio is by far the most nerve racking wrestler to watch on the team. Even if his wrestling a lower rank guy, if that guy stalls, it takes a lot of time for him to get there.

I'm looking forward to being nervous watching him for three more years.

I would pick Sergio over Jax as Outstanding Wrestler for the tournament from his victory over a 2X champ but it would calculate out to the third decimal points. Here's the results of that calculation performed in my head:

Sergio Vega - 50.001
Jax Forsett - 49.999

I'll tell you, I wasn't sold on Sergio before this past weekend. I sure as hell am sold now. I didn't get a chance to see much of him this past year but I'll sure as hell be seeing more of him over the next 3 years. I'm not a Cowboys fan, but Sergio Vega is hard not to like. What a great young nucleus of talent you guys have. The future looks bright in Stillwater!

Jax is the man and is a gas to watch but if I could only watch one match per dual, it would almost always be Sergio.

Someone explain to me how a college kid ever beats him. At least at 141.

If a 2x national champ senior is afraid to shoot on him, I'm having trouble imagining a scenario where another guy comes up with something that works.

Its going to have to be something not utilized often.

You aren't going to sucker drag him, unless it is lightning quick...and it still may not be possible.

You aren't going to score in a single, HiC or a double unless you take his corner cutting away...not even sure how to do that?

I predict, if he gives up a TD at 41, it will have to be something upper body from a greco type guy.

Another great moment for Sergio was when he was riding and they rolled around and Mendez almost got a reversal several times and in that same position for a split second I thought Mendez was going to take Sergio to his back and Sergio hipped out of it. Mendez only got an escape and with his strength, and position and hold he had a chance to score reversal and back points but Sergio makes the right move and only gives up the escape. Sergio like Jax is a master at making the right move at the right time when trouble is right there.

Sure does make for a nervous watch though.

Vega coming out to the mat with a smile on his face told me a lot. He was even smiling going into OT. Seemed like zero nerves and he was just enjoying the moment with confidence.
That is why my wife is the President of the Vega fan club.

Cool story:

My wife didn't go to Big Xii's due to her anxiety of asking too much from the grandmas and not trusting kids to watch our kids for 3-4 days...and boy did she have the FOMO.

So, she pulled up matcast during class to watch and when Vega came on, it was pencils down and she put his match on the whitescreen and made her students watch every Vega match that happened during school hours.
