More updates I’ve heard…

1. Manyawu didn’t play
2. We were 4-27 from 3
3. Went deep in the bench
4. Jirak played well / surprised.

Ben said earlier this year in an interview that he uses them to get certain players a lot of playing time to see where they might fit. I take that to mean potential contributors like Jirak, Thompson, Cooper. Sage, Joey M rather than proven commodities like Stirtz, Hausen, Howard, Banks. Likes to use it as a learning experience and motivator. My take on it anyway.

Not good to get beat pretty handily by an A10 opponent but not a totally negative thing either.

The way it sounds St. Louis went out of their way to make us uncomfortable, which I have to think was by design from McCollum, considering His and Schertz’s relationship.
Disappointing to hear, but knowing Mac literally just said (basically) they don’t try to win those it shouldn’t be worrisome.

Did you even listen to the coach's comments about scrimmages and his experiences with the importance of such? From your comment, probably not. Go back and listen and then come back and tell us how ridiculous and uninformed your comment is.
Probably not, he doesn't seem too smart.

From the SLU board (from a poster who evidently watched the scrimmage)…

Both IA and SLU played their respective starters the entire first 12 minute period. SLU is as tall as Iowa, but 15-20 pounds lighter at each position.

The score was not displayed, but SLU had difficulty getting open looks and SLU was likely outscored.

SLU coach Schertz said that Stirtz will be an NBA player and he was the best player on the court.

Second 12 minute period, SLU played 5 different players. Again, difficulty getting open looks and we (SLU) were likely outscored. Iowa kept most of their starters in the second period.

Third period, SLU much more competitive. Better flow on offense, better defense as well. Continued into the fourth period.

Our (SLU) 3 point shooting much better in the second half. Iowa kept most of their starters out in the second half.

It appears IA won the first two periods with our top 8 or so players but got pounded pretty good with the second team.

Sounds a lot like a spring training baseball game. The outcome isn't as important as seeing what everyone's got, etc.

Particularly if Iowa's starters were mostly out in the 2nd half as posted above, then I take the W/L with a grain of salt here. We'll see how this team looks in real games.

Love hearing that SLU was having trouble getting open looks. Defense? Yes, please.

Ironic (to me anyway) that Sac is similar in that Christie is focused on defense like Ben. And, as you said in post #24...
"The outcome isn't as important as seeing what everyone's got, etc."
Doug's been playing several players as well in the preseason, which makes sense to sort out the roster and G League assignments. Good take.

Interesting info...Iowa starts around 7 mins. They must not have known Manyawu was out, either.

First, where do they get all the stats from? Second, they are basing their evaluation on these same stats. It's preseason, so I'll let it slide but what it all tells me is this evaluation means nothing.

I mean...those guys are pretty well connected, respected, and trusted.

Not true

Could very well tell us our bench might not be great and unless Fran’s teams Ben may only go 7-8 deep
"Could" means that it means nothing. It could be that they all played with pneumonia. The point is, I'm sure a lot was learned. I'm hesitant to call it a lost season quite yet.
