Season Ticket "Range"

Rather than getting lost in the other thread, I wonder how far away from Starkville you can live and actually enjoy season tickets for football. I would assume Jackson and Memphis are doable if you don't have kids and a lot tougher if you do.

So how far away do some of you travel for single games, all games, or somewhere in between? Kids no kids?

We had season tickets for years, and the trip each way was about 3.5 hours (185 or so miles each way from Madison, Alabama), counting a stop or two for gas, etc. As we grew older, it just got to be too much of a hassle and not good on the old bones, so we dropped tickets in 2018. It had nothing to do with the quality of product on the field, wokeness, or expense - it was just physically draining. We might consider going to a single game now just to see the campus as much as anything, but we've not done that yet.

I live 3.5 hours away and that is too far for me to want to do a day trip. You got to figure a 7pm kick, games close to four hours, an hour getting on the road good, that puts me at 3:30 AM getting home. No way Jose.

An 11 AM kick, an hour getting in, half hour for bathroom breaks on the road. That is 6am leaving. Once again, no thanks

We did that many times for football, and even a few times for basketball, in our younger days. Driving that time of the night can be quite dangerous, so I never really enjoyed doing it.

And for me that would include late night driving down hwy 82 to Tuscaloosa, with drunk state fans behind me and drunk Alabama fans potentially coming the other way head on, then after Tuscaloosa on the interstate with drunk Alabama fans. No thank you.

An option for flying Dawgs, Contour Airlines flys a commuter from Tupelo to Nashville. It inexpensive and I can usually go from the parking lot in Tupelo to Nashville in under an hour. Nashville has better direct flights than either Memphis or Birmingham. The only issue with Contour is that the don't have connection agreements with other airlines. If you check a bag, once in Nashville you have to get your bag and go back through security just like you drove to the Nashville airport. I've learned to pack light in a carry on. The flight from Tupelo to Nashville will be anywhere from 1/3 to 1/5 cheaper than GTR to Atlanta.

One reason I enjoy living in meridian. Close to family and the dawgs. Season tickets for football and rarely miss a game, 2-3 basketball games and multiple baseball games. With baseball I do not have season tickets because of my kids ages but being in meridian I get offered tickets from friends for a game or two here and there for SEC series and can always get free weekday games from friends. LA Tech on a Tuesday with a small child is as much (maybe more) fun as trying to deal with them on a Saturday SEC matchup. Also for the lesser games I enjoy getting out a little early and listening to 2-3 innings in the radio on the way home. Seems to shorten the trip and since I’m close enough I figure I can be back next week if I want so I’m not missing much unless it’s a close game.

Hattiesburg is just too far to make a comfortable day trip out of it. Even worse further south obviously.
