Not sure what you mean by sunshine pumpers.....RU is a unanimous selection in every publication or website for 14th place in a 14 team league....it's a tough league and we have tons of inexperience and lack shooting at the small forward position. This is all about what production and pieces can gain experience and build for the 2016 season where clearly there are 2 bonafide additions in Kwe Parker and Nigel Johnson to mix with the roster in place that loses Greg Lewis (a 5th year senior) and Bishop Daniels. Can we find more depth or another bonafide starter that can start in 2017 as a sophomore in the 2016 recruiting class (OR do we tap into the JUCO route for immediate help ala Deshawn Freeman) and backfill with another 4 year wing??
I would not place any emphasis on wins and losses for this season, although I believe if you scheduled a soft enough schedule, then the discussion would be that it's a mirage. RU has a challenging OOC schedule for a team with a lot of underclassmen playing a lot of minutes and players that have not played with their new teammates against an opponent (Regardless of mid-major or not). There is talent, but it's going to require a sorting out process.
If there was significant progress, it would not matter until the games start and if we looked horrible, it doesn't count for another 2 weeks when games start. A team can have it's starters play 30 minutes and win the scrimmage or experiment and see what players look like vs someone else in a different uniform. Boston College supposedly killed RU in a scrimmage that lead BC on it's way to it's 13-18 or 13-19 finish last year, with a 5th year transfer RU wanted badly, averaging around 12-13 PPG and playing 30 minutes a night. Not exactly what I would do if I was BC, but to each program, it's own.
I am just hopeful that Diallo's knee allows him to play all season and we squeeze 18 minutes a night out of him, while leaning on Lewis for leadership....Doorson getting healthy would help down the road, but I think we are one starter short this year from making the step forward we should make next year.....no one wants to hear next year every season, but it's the stark reality of where the program is but it's improved athletically and should be fun to watch. Getting 2 more good 2016 recruits to go with Kwe Parker, is really more important than this year's win-loss record, IMO.
