Scrimmage Updates Or Thoughts?

As in that's the weakest I've seen Murphy look in preseason scrimmage in a long time. The passing game showed positive flashes but the running game wasn't close to where it needs to be and the defense struggled overall.
To be fair one of Murphy's best players on both sides of the ball went out early with turf toe and that threw a wrench in things a bit and Watauga looks like they're going to be strong this year but.. Murphy scrimmaged Ashe too and I still saw plenty of struggle.
At the end of the day it's just a scrimmage and you cant read too too much into it. But there are definitely more questions for Murphy going into this season than at any point since at least 2015 and possibly since as far back as '06.
Well, how'd Watauga look? Mitchell has them in a couple weeks. About the same as usual?
They looked pretty good I thought, they brought back most of their team from last year apparently. Their d-lineman that's committed to NC State is a beast.
Mt Airy scrimmaged 1A Wytheville and 2A Ridgeview (both Virginia schools). No problems at all with Wytheville. Ridgeview is larger and talented. First varsity team round of 10 plays went to Ridgeview 1 score to none with one Mt Airy TD canceled via penalty. Ridgeview did clearly better.
Second round of 10 plays Mt Airy scored 4 times and held Ridgeview to 0. Coaches made adjustments.
2nd team and freshman rounds were like 8 scores to 0, Mt Airy cake walk.
Thats is the good news.
Bad news is Mt Airy varsity is really going to have to grow up along the line and linebackers real quickly. Secondary is fast but skill level is going to have to elevate quickly also. "If" we are undefeated at the end of the regular season, (and I am not saying we will be) my guess is that it will be because Mt Airy is winning games 42 to 35 or some such scores.
Mt Airy is, in fact, a very young team.

Can't sleep on Andrews. Those boys have old school guts. Last years win was no fluke.
Wildcats won’t be overlooked this year but staying healthy will be the key just like it is for any 1A team.
They really looked good in their scrimmage game last night against Franklin. No fumbles or interceptions and seemed to be very in sync for a scrimmage game. Plenty things to improve on but overall I was very satisfied especially having one starter out.

Andrews scored more than that… I know of at least 4 scores with their starters
Andrews is no slouch but Watauga has size, some speed, and is well coached. It will be a heck of a game
Hard to tell about Mitchell with the QB not running at all. Their backfield looks really solid though and teams will not be able to focus just on him.
I thought the same thing! It was so different I felt like something was off but I’m glad they worked on passing a bit more. It will help us out as the season goes!
Swain has some good linemen, and enough were only a couple have to go both ways. Swain strength should be on defense, but it hard to tell off a scrimmage.
