Why is wrong? Like you said, you can’t just give them the ball and say “here, we don’t want to score so you can have it,”
He may or may not have meant it that way, but I'll put it differently - It is wrong - on many levels - that (choose 1) - a) there is a team in the NCAA tournament that is so inept as to give up 140 points
b) there is a team in the NCAA tournament (or WBB in general) that can score 140 when they are not trying to humiliate anyone - can you imagine if they tried to run up the score?
c) that, whether it is really true or not (last year it wasn't. but...), there is a team that can suck the hope out of every other fan base in women's basketball for a championship.
In that regard, it is just wrong.
It is also, FWIW, "wrong" in my mind that, in spite of some juicy upsets, all 16 top seeds, playing at home, have advanced to the 2nd round. While a few struggled early to get going in their games, I don't really think it was close. Can we please have some upsets in round 2?
