I went there on a game day about 20 years ago and it was fun. When I went there in college it was at its original location the NW corner of 13th and O. 45 cent draws and buck fifty pitchers, with 2 fers on Friday from 3:00 until 6:00. We would get there around 1:00 Friday to get a table. Played shuffleboard and owned the table all afternoon.

and what year would that be? :D
I think that would have been 1979 or 1980. Most bars had 2-fers for a couple hours on Friday. Then somebody rocked the boat and offered 3-fers. Then somebody offered 4-fers and several bars followed suit. It was sort of a nuclear arms race. And then as is usually the case, somebody got drunk, did something stupid, sued the bar for "making him drunk" and then all you got at Friday Afternoon Club were "drink specials" and some stale chips.

I came of age in the mid 80's and I was lucky to have experienced the tail end of that era. Texas (and I'm sure Nebraska) outlawed those kinds of promotions so as not to encourage binge drinking. I remember paying a cover to some beach clubs back in the day and having an "any coin, any drink" special.

Great way to get rid of all those pennies.

Two things: In the old Sandy's after the '78 Oklahoma game, looked out the window and saw the goalposts going by on 14th St. And whatever the bar was at 27th and Cornhusker (help me out here) had 3-fers on Thursday. Give the waitress a dollar. She brings back three bottles of Coors and a dime change.

I was the security guard all night at Sandoz Hall a couple nights a week for a year. I locked the doors at 10 PM and unlocked them at 6 AM. I sat at a desk and let the girls in if they came home after 10 PM. Virtually every weekend a few girls would escort (half carry) a very-intoxicated, newly-turned 19 girl in around midnight. One of them would be clutching a "Firecracker" glass from Uncle Sam's. I didn't ever go to Uncle Sam's, but apparently on your 19th birthday they made this Zombie-like drink with about 8 shots in it, gave it to you for free, and let you keep the glass. For someone who never/rarely drank before, it was a lot of booze to handle the first time at bat.

I remember Uncle Sam's and its lit disco dance floor. And the Firecracker.
