Boehiem suspended nine games. Lose three scholarships for next four years.

This will put Mike Hopkins both on display and on-the-spot. Many people don't seem to realize that, to keep Hopkins from interviewing too much, Syracuse has named him the coach-in-waiting. If Syracuse does well in those 9 games, it will likely accelerate his promotion to the top. If not, there might be some interesting debates about his future.

Hopkins came to Syracuse as a very low-regarded recruit from southern California in the late 80s, who has never left the city or program. At the time it was rumoured that he came paritally to entice LeRon Ellis to transfer from Kentucky to Syracuse (which he did) because they both attended the same high school in Calfornia.

I wonder if the scholarship losses will hurt as much as we think.

I believe that they are allowed 13 scholarships if not on limited. This means they only have 10 for the next 4 years.

For Rutgers this will hurt more since we are not full of 4 and 5 star players. For Cuse if they have 10 players that are 4 and 5 stars they just won't have depth but can compete and be close to a top 25 team.

Syracuse is appealing. They want Boeheim to be suspended for the next 9 years for their early season Cornell matchups.

Watch for some 4 star players who will suddenly have $$$ to become walk-ons.

Pitino at Louisville did this (starting players went odd scholarship in Senior Season).

CUSE will figure out how to get around scholarship losses.

Syracuse has 4 incoming recruits who all signed LOI. That was smart of Boheim to trap them in the early signing period before the sanctions hit. Will the NCAA let these kids out of their LOI's? Cuse only has Rakeem Christmas graduating. If they are losing 3 scholarships next year, then theoretically they shouldn't be able to bring in 3 of those 4.

found my answer "If the school has already executed scholarship offers for the 2015-16 year, the school may begin the four-year penalty with the 2016-17 year."

Under the circumstances, I think the LOI can be voided and they can go elsewhere with no penalty.
