I am impressed that Rutgers was able to fill in the Gator Bowl with basically no notice over the holiday break. There isn't a chance in he'll NU could/would have made that happen.

Now your post has some context..
So removing a sentence from the post adds more context? Ok.

So let me spell it out then and ask you or any others...if NU had the opportunity to play in that game in the same manner as Rutgers did, would NU have accepted? I vote a hard no. What say you? If you agree with me and say no, then you probably got the context from the beginning.

It’s a moot point if they had won 5 games you would have a case…

3 Win teams don’t get asked to play in bowl games and especially before a 5 win team(s) So your post has no merit of context..Winking

I give Rutgers credit for taking the bid. They're probably overmatched, but Schiano saw an opportunity to play in a New Year's Eve bowl game and essentially be on the ESPN undercard for the biggest day of the entire college football season. How often is Rutgers going to get an opportunity like that?

It isn't about whether this 3 win team was eligible or not. The context was whether this program, given the same opportunity as Rutgers, would have accepted. I know you know that, and I'll accept your non-answer as an answer to my question.

I would like to think we would go for it, but it would be a bit of a logistical nightmare trying to get everyone back and practice for maybe a week? Surprised anyone is able to do it, quite frankly…

I’d wager you we have more players from out of state having to get back than Rutgers has..

I/2 the people on here would ***** how bad we would look with only a week to prepare…

Still say it’s a moot point from the very beginning…

How do you know that Nebraska couldn't have showed up for this game?? Have they ever had to show up for a game on short noticed before and not been able to pull it off?

Had a chance last year after winning more games, but they were kinda tired and stuff.

check that, they were too tired after 8 games last year(still winning 3).

I agree. Very impressive that the Rutgers program did it.

Of course nobody knows either way. Rutgers did it, so I was interested in whether people thought NU could/would.

No they didn’t..
Their bowl game would have not fallen on New Year’s Eve and why would you compare last season Covid year..
Because most of the players and staff(including the HC!) are the same and they had a chance to go to a bowl game under much more favorable circumstances last year, but decided not to.

Other than that, no reason to compare I suppose. I should probably just put my finger in the air and guess.

JFC…

Nebraska may have chosen differently this year, if only because the new AD might have said, "I don't give AF who's tired, we're playing."

No they were working out since August getting tested day after day waiting for the season changed by Warren getting the okie dokie…

How long did they practice before having the first game? And when they did play the next game the next week against Wisconsin was canceled… I KNOW HOW LONG..

So don’t give me this that this year was the same as last year regardless on how they faired during the season..

Nebraska would most certainly NOT have done what Rutgers is doing, even with five wins.

Proof? Last year.

”anyone, anywhere” was absolute BS from Frost.
People tryong to chalk it up to covid are just looking for an excuse, and would have found one this year, too.
Everyone dealt with covid last year,

An excuse would have been made and eagerly accepted by Husker fans, and anyone questioning why we wouldnt play would be dragged over the coals, just like last year.

Until theres proof otherwise, this is what we know based on the past.

Good on Rutgers, btw.

Rutgers also chose not to play in a Bowl Game last year. It was a totally different dynamic, so it’s pretty silly to say Nebraska wouldn’t have played this year because they didn’t last year, when Rutgers chose not to play last year too. A number of Nebraska players were very vocal on social media hoping for a chance to fill in for a Bowl Game.

That is what I’ve been pointing out since the beginning of this thread..

If Nebraska had won 5 games and were asked to play on New Years Eve in the Gator bowl, TA would have had them on the plane….

The vigorous discourse about whether or not we would opt to play in a bowl game glosses over the shameful reality that in year 4, with what was stated to be his most talented team, we missed having the opportunity for a mercy invite by 2 full games and qualifying via merit by 3

Yes. We totally need more bitching about the state of Husker football. Absolutely no one sees that we stink. Good thing you are around to remind us in every thread. God forbid anyone talks about literally anything else.

I guess I’m curious what people thought the off-season discourse was going to be when the decision was made to bring back a head coach who has lost at historical levels for a 5th year?

I’m fine with Frost coming back. The discussion would be completely different, however, with a new head coach instead we are debating hypothetical scenarios about what may or may not happen if we could have just managed 5 wins

The should Frost be fired discussion has been had and the decision has been made. Heck we can have yet another thread on it. But continually posting about how much Nebraska sucks in every dam thread no matter the subject, reeks of troll. Especially when it’s literally all you have done on this board since joining.

And you are OK with him coming back? Yet you do nothing but trash Nebraska football? Seems a little odd.

Too many bowls. There really should only be about 15 bowls. That way, it is a big deal and an accomplishment to be in one.

So some positive stuff here. Any bowl would rather have us than Rutgers due to us, the fan base. Also, we would have kept the game close, likely losing by 7 points or less on a razor thin margin decided by a late error of some type made by us.

I think we would have played this season.

But "COVID" year has nothing to do with it. There's more COVID right now than there was at this point last year and Rutgers made it.

Our "team captain" on offense who didn't want to play in a bowl game last year and split the team isn't here any longer.

Most players at this level are wired to play, therefore I'm betting the QB's in our locker room (and remaining captains) would have gone.
