Will we ever figure out what to do with New Jersey based players?
It's the chicken-egg scenario.
Winning attracts the best players (unless you're St John's) but you need the players to win and make Rutgers attractive.
You can't avoid the king makers in NJ just because you dont think you'll get their players, but you can't spend all your time and resources on kids that won't come here, either.
It's going to take at least a decade and maybe never to get where Cincy, UConn, Xavier, Nova, Cuse are, and there's always an $MU that will do whatever it takes to get a player.
But we haven't done ourselves any favors and it's going to take years to recover. It's not the be-all end-all of recruiting but it's what most programs would aim for - recruit your own backyard.
It's simply foolish to have an adversarial relationship with NJ coaches. It's just bad for business.
