Interesting how RU's women's basketball team used to be the bell cow for all RU sports nationally. Now the argument can be made that they are at the bottom of the team sport list. It has been a pretty drastic turnaround.

Drastic indeed. Remember WBB made the NCAA tournament last year. The question is, is this a one year aberration, or a fall off the cliff?

good question, should be just a one year aberration, but the status of HC could make for a serious downside if not cleared up soon.
Also after sitting out last season and taking time off because of fatigue a few years ago, CVS returning as the RU WBB HC might not help recruiting because no one can be sure of her stanmima and if it was really the COVID protection the reason for taking the LOA or if there were other health issues also involved that could affect her ability to stay the length of her contract or even the 2022-23 season.
That might make falling off cliff a possibility.

Actually just making the tourney should not be enough.
Being a title contender should be what's wanted.

Sadly we aren't even a contender in the BIG. We've never been in the title game and if I recall, made the the semi only once in 8 years. RU WBB should be striving to be better and competitive in our own league. Until that happens, any NCAA appearances will be 'one and done' I'm afraid.

Way back in the abbreviated 2020-21 season, RU was 10-3 in league play. Is that not competitive?

I should clarify, the BIG tournament. That said, RU hasn’t been lighting the world on fire - have we been a top-4 seed more than once since joining the BIG? Those are the elite teams in the conference and I think it’s fair to say, RU isn’t one of them. We need a reboot.

in other words, comes close at times, but not close enough to be considered a top B1G program.

Although we aren't one of the elite teams of the B1G others don't look past us and many dread playing us come tourney time. All bring their "A" game when facing us.

It's unfortunate that we seem to follow a pattern (with the exception of this year). We peak too early.....usually midway to late in the regular season. We get the recognition that no one gave us preseason, and then something goes awry. We don't handle success well. The surprisingly free-flowing offense and team cohesiveness exhibited during the peak abruptly goes away......just in time for the B1G and NCAA Tourney. We end up imploding in the postseason. We beat ourselves moreso than the other team beating us. That falls on the coach. It is the biggest shortcoming of CVS' recent season results and makes us all wonder if she can take us that extra step like Indy and Mich have been able to take.

The elites of the conference, I would think, are Md., Indy, Iowa, and Mich. Like I said above, Indy and Mich just recently joined those ranks. From the time we joined the B1G it was really... Md and then everyone else, until recent years. Iowa and Ohio St have been the other regulars in the Top 20 although OSU has been on par with us for the most part. They enjoyed huge success with Kelsey Mitchell,....otherwise mixed success. Then there was us, Northwestern, Mich, Mich St, Indy, Purdue, vying for top half of the conference finishes.

Bottomline,.....Recently(not incl this season) there are only 3 teams that have had our number(Md., Indy, and Iowa). We haven't been as far from the top of the B1G as media perception would have one think (not incl this season).

The hope was that CVS would have gotten us over the hump and into that elite class with the coming of Diamond's class. But we all know how that worked out. Sadly, this year's developments scream of the need for change.

Big East days. UConn, Rutgers-Notre Dame, Louisville up and coming . Every year.
Where have they been last decade. Where are they now?
