Every semi-elite athlete knows it is very important to keep a running log to track progress.

I’m heading out for my daily run soon.

Will any other semi-elite athletes have the guts to join me or will they tuck tail again today?

In my book there's no such thing as a good morning for a run unless something large and hungry with sharp teeth is chasing me (and about 10 days ago a neighbor up here near my summer hideout spotted a cougar nearby). But being that it's Tuesday I'll be doing my usual strength and HIIT stuff. And I'm far from lacking the self awareness to label myself a semi-elite athlete, just an old dude investing some time to hold off sarcopenia and similar age-related decline to have the healthiest span of out years I can manage.

That’s awesome. Do what you can do and you’ll be better for it!

I was directly called out by a semi-elite hiking athlete. I challenged him $1k to race. He doesn’t want any part of it.

We have hot weather too. That’s why you run in the early morning. Our middle school running club hasn’t missed a day all summer. 9 year olds run on heat advisory days.

Air Quality Alert for Chicago and the Mid-West from thousands of square miles of Canadian forests on fire !

Just watched some high school runners staggering up hill past our house !

Lucky chicken SURVIVES !

One chicken returned to the front yard and her coop !

After being lost in the heavy woods across the street overnight !

Saw her in the front and Matt shooed her into the coop.
30 + 1 = 31 layers.

Fox caught in live trap, sent onto Camp .22 Fox !

Last few days before the heat wave hits. Get up early and get out there TJ.

I’m getting my run in even with the death jab pumping through my veins. Are you?

Same today 7/17 with the Heat Index 102o F

Be careful !

Matt's ex girlfriend took her Lab out for a run with the Lab tied to her bike.

The poor pooch died of heat exhaustion !

We’re doing our hill workout this morning. TJ would love it. Of course we run up the hills, not walk up them.

What do say TJ? Ready to race yet? I bet the semi-elite athlete can’t even run 5 miles. Should we go 4 instead?

Glory Days:

When I was getting ready for my Senior season at Syracuse, I had the following routine.

18 holes Tupper Lake CC, walking, the course is on the side of a mountain.
Light Lunch
Run up the mountain road to the ski slope parking area; 3 miles up.
Cool down drink from spring water coming out of mountainside.
Run down the mountain road to my home; 3 miles down.

That allowed me to be able to run that 5:10 - 5:20 time !

Hot and muggy run this morning.

Had to cut it back a little, but still got my run in while TJ was investigating Ozzy’s death and Obama’s sexual preferences.

Ready to race yet TJ? This damaged ticker doesn’t seem to want to quit.

I was watching my Roth !

A put option trade I entered yesterday PM (Wed), was active I got out UP 34 % this Thurs morning.

It kept going up !

But my mantra "Don't be a Piggy !" held me in good stead.

Was I wrong to miss my pool time on the float ?

With this Heat Advisory in effect in our area, the bird seed feeders are semi vacant.

The suet hangers are busy as the heat is softening the suet bricks for an easy meal...

You've seen me being proud of the local high school runners on my street on their daily route, my street is part of a long uphill grade !

So today there is ANOTHER heat advisory in effect for OVER 100o F !

Looking out my front window 15 minutes ago, I see several jogging by up the road ! Good job !

10 minutes later I see some stragglers walking up the street, fanning themselves with their t-shirts.

Then I see the runners have turned around and are jogging downhill. The walkers turn around also, back to the barn, ALL downhill !

Although you can't blame them !

The Heat Index is ALREADY 97 o F. !

We just finished up. Did a quick 3 miles and some speed work. Heat advisory here

TJ tapped out some insults on his keyboard. Semi-elite!

Heading out for my long weekend run. No mountains to climb or NJ patrolman to wrestle, just several miles of semi-elite running.

Got another rehab run in. Felt pretty good. I think TJ lost his window. Ready to race again. $1k is yours whenever you’re ready!

If I'm not mistaken aren't we still waiting for your current distances and times ?

High schooler doing intervals on my street. Up the hill for .2 tenths and a nice grade to the top 1

I ran a shade over 4 miles in 36 minutes at practice yesterday.

It doesn’t matter what I run though, the keyboard warrior is only willing to talk.

We’re doing hill work today as well. Getting adjusted to afternoon weather.

Now he has a standard to compete against !

The kid did 10 intervals in the AM, when a little cooler.

Glory Days when we were athletes: 5:10-20 mile at about 240-45 as a Senior at Cuse.
4 years later in NJSP Academy, 2 - 25 man ( NO women ) platoons formation, in step, jump boots. 5 miles @ 7 minutes a mile. 280-285 or so after getting in shape. all must finish to graduate.

The hardest thing I ever had to do was learn to walk again ! After my 2 Moderna shots and my subsequent Stroke.
3 months in re-hab, 3 more months home to shed the walker, the 4 prong cane and FINALLY walk 4 laps on the track, just holding Mary Anne's hand.

Yeah your story keeps changing. You told us it was 5 miles in 40 minutes a few weeks ago, which is still impressive and more likely.

Let’s be honest, it doesn’t matter what I can or can’t run. Guys like TJ are all talk. He’s never achieved anything athletically, so he has to try to tear down others to compensate.
