i don't want this to get political, but it probably will. How many have seen the documentary running for his life? I'll admit I'm not a word traveler, I have traveled to about half the states. But I'll say I'm pretty naive. I was sickened of how Lawrence Phillips was raised, and how many kids are like him that we have never herd about. And I don't care which political party you are we have failed those people. My point is I know mo Washington supposedly committed a crime, but I'm all for giving the kid a second chance, if by him playing football can change his life and get him away for his past, that far better than kicking him off the team and him possible going to jail. What is that going to accomplish? Just another kid gets stuck in the penal system.

I'm all for giving him another chance if some other school wants to take him. The guy needs to be cut loose pronto. As one attended and worked for UNL I don't him representing my university.

Sadly, I think he'll be gone. That being said, I don't think that's the right move. Let's hear his side of the story and let all of the facts come out.

Ok I understand, is it just because he's a athlete that you want him gone? And athletes are in the spot light

I believe that Frost and Co. have already demonstrated and have answered your question. What we know today was brought to life to the staff back in March. They gave him a chance and has been clean since the incident took place. If Washington gets cleared and does stay, I’d imagine he’s one strike away from being kicked off the team.

I remember last year many of us didn’t think Washington would ever step on campus because of academic issues. The narrative was that he had grade issues and our staff was waiting to get clearance. After today, I believe our staff was waiting to be assured that this case would not affect Washington, the university and the team going forward.

I'm copying and pasting my comment from a different thread...

When you hear that she may have approached him to say congratulations on signing with Nebraska, and attempt to reconnect with him, I can completely understand him lashing out and telling her to "Go F Herself!!" and even mention "Get Lost," because of the video. He just made the critical mistake of sending the video along with the message "Remember this, hoe?" He should have gotten rid of that video long ago. Stupid mistake of sending it.

If this is indeed how things went down, he was just a kid that was hurt by hearing about/seeing the video, and upon her trying to reconnect, made a mistake in how he told the girl to "beat it.." I hope that is what comes out of the investigation, because I think people would be more understanding of what took place. Still very stupid of him to send that video, but it would be a lot more innocent than it initially appeared.

Calm down? Seriously?
There is more to the story apparently. They said on the radio that this all came up because the girl's stepmother intercepted (snooped on the girl's phone) and found the text and video. She then trotted it to the police after her step-daughter explained it by saying she was raped. This was Mo's girlfriend. I don't know if this video was why they broke up. I don't know if the act in the video was consensual or not. I might add that the girl initiated the contact with Washington. Did she want to get back together with him? Let's let this thing play out in court because I have a suspicion that the "facts" might change when somebody is asked to testify in front of a judge. He was stupid for saving the video. He was stupid for sending it to her AFTER SHE contacted him. We'll see how stringently they want to enforce the law given the potential circumstances of the situation. Unfortunately for him given the current climate and his status as a college football player, they'll go all out to convict him of something. Is sharing a video with a person in the video and nobody else actually conveying child pornography? Is it revenge porn if he isn't sharing it with anybody else? The court will decide. We had a couple of guys do much worse at NU and Tom went to court for them to get them acquitted. Pretty ironic that something like this crops up Frost's first year at NU....from a kid from California for something he did before he ever set foot on campus.

I believe he will be back. Mo’s lawyer seems confident (as do all lawyers). Just hope the kid learns and grows up.

I agree with your take and good post. OJ Simpson would disagree with this though:

“Unfortunately for him given the current climate and his status as a college football player, they'll go all out to convict him of something”.

With respect to the OP's original comment, keeping LP around to play football didn't seem to help him much. MW's issue is not in the same league as LP's problems though, at least not to this point.

Very different circumstances and time. O.J. was a black hero in that community being tried by a very average very white prosecutor. BTW, I smirk at Bruning saying that his client is cooperating fully with the investigators. He has no choice. They have the text message and the video. They don't need any other evidence to convict him. All that is left is for him to try to explain the situation and beg for leniency.

I understand, my point is that I don't think many of us can truly understand what these intercitys kids have to deal with. It's truly ashame that both political parties have used them instead of actually helping them out. That why I said let him have due process if he makes it through the court then by all means give him a second chance. But after this No more this is his mulligan.

What you want to lynch the kid like the old west? He's allowed due proces. Unbelievable

This is a great post. Give the kid his day in court and let the process play out. Our instant gratification society often forgets that.

And before I get accused of condoning or ignoring what the kid actually did, I am not condoning it in any way. Im just saying let the kid have his day in court.

The final decision on Maurice's status may not be with Frost but with UNL and it's student conduct policy depending on the outcome of any legal proceedings .

Most of these kids don't have ANY background that would help them deal with these situations. None. Anybody that thinks they paid any attention to anything anybody tried to tell them in school is delirious. I can't imagine this ever coming to light in 99.9% of the population that he comes from. This is coming to light because he's got a football scholarship and the step mom wasn't happy. He screwed up so now he's going to learn a tough lesson.

Yes seriously. I tend to side on whatsw the agenda. People tend to over react. Innocent till proven guilty unless..... can't say it or I'll be labeled as political. But definitely hypocritical......
How's it hypocritical? This kid doesn't have a "right" to play football for Nebraska. At the very least he has shown that he is dumber than a box of rocks. Maybe you need to raise the bar for your standards.

Well I highly doubt that Bruning has a California license so that would be required to represent him in that state. Bruning did release a statement on Washington's behalf.

A search warrant request has been made and will be honored. This essentially opens up everything on his computer and mobile phone to authorities.
I'd like to remain positive, however speculation says, more damning information will be recovered.

I sure wouldn't want you sitting a jury, if I was on trial. Btw how do you know he's dumber than a box of rocks? So you want squeaky clean players? What about the whole student body? I'm sure notre dame and byu have issues, and those or religious schools.

I'll give the kid the benefit of the doubt. Let's just hope that half of the football team wasn't scrambling for their phones when the news broke. I hope for Mo's sake that it was an isolated incident. All signs point that way. However you never know until the facts are presented.

Has Mo or his attorney denied that he sent the video? Everything I have read states that he has never denied sending the video. Bottom line what kind of person sends that video to the person in the video? Doesn't matter (In this legal matter in Mo's case) if it was consensual or assault, what makes a person think its ok to do that? Why would you ever send that to another human being, no matter what you think of them. That makes me ill.

As a husband and a father of a wife & daughter who have been sexually assaulted I find some posters comments in other threads to be sickening and mentally disturbed.

(True Story) When a police officer shows up at your door and questions your daughter after she says she has been sexually assaulted and one of the first questions is "What were you wearing?" And I ask how is that relevant and he says what she was wearing has an effect on why they might have done it. That just proves there are a lot of stupid people in this world.

Oh man that sucks. Hopefully they are on the road to recovery. You do have my prayers. I'm not justifying what he did, my point is that most of the kids in the intercity are in a whole different word. And sadly don't know what is right or wrong. And if he pays his penalty then give him a second chance. I don't care if he's a up coming star or running on the scout team. Or just a regular student

LP wasn't just given a 2nd chance, he was given a 3rd and 4th chance, and proved to be a POS over and over. Lots of people have tough upbringings and don't end up assaulting multiple women and running over kids in a stolen car.

I spend so much money on therapy for my wife and daughter and it is worth every penny! My wife is doing better every month, my daughter not so much. In the past she has hurt herself because of the pain and shame that is associated with the assault. I wont get into it but she could use everyone's prayers. She is no longer the same loving sweet young girl. As a father this perp has taken away my ability to even hug my daughter. My hope is one day I will be able to wrap my arms around my daughter without her running away in tears.

When you found out, would have you killed the guy or guys that did that to your family? I have a really long fuse my parents always taught me to turn the other cheek, but if someone did that to my wife or other family members, it would me really hard not to

I wanted too, but I also know me being in jail is not going to help my daughter. To be honest I want to hurt that person so much and tell him what he has done not only to my daughter but to my family. I know this sounds strange but I actually had to forgive him in my heart in order to get over the rage. I am called to do that. Forgiving him has helped me but I still wish he was in jail in order to protect other girls and other families.
